TANK CALIBRATION, SURVEYS & INSPECTIONS

Storage with hazardous materials always entails risk for community and
environment.
Leakages from storage tanks containing hazardous substances, oil, gas or
chemicals can be influenced by external surface weather, or internal
temperature variations and this lead disaster. Periodic inspection, survey and
calibrations will eliminate the chances of such occurrences.

TANK CALIBRATION & SURVEYS

Accurate volume measurement is mandatory for good contractual relationship
in global trading of chemicals, petroleum products and liquefied gases.
IET’s tank calibration helps to establishment accurate custody transfer figures
and maintaining good contractual relationships with your patron.

WHAT IS TANK CALIBRATION?

Tank calibration is the science of determining the exact
true volume of a containment system corresponding to a
certain measurement value.
Reliable quantity measurement is the critical in worldwide
trading and this can only be assured by accurate and
regular calibration as per ISO 7507-3 & 4 / API MPMS
2.2C & 2.2D for vertical cylindrical tank , API 2551 for
horizontal tank & API 2552 for spheres and spheroids

OTHER SURVEYS OFFERS FOR STORAGE TANKS

For assuring the storage tanks compliance with local regulations as well as with the relevant
standards and codes, IET provides technical surveys in accordance to API 650, 653 or as per
clients’ specifications.

• Tank shell settlement evaluation • Tank tilt survey

• Shell settlement graph & analysis • Shell radial displacement from tank base
• Shell out of roundness survey • Floor plate layout
• Bottom plate settlement evaluation • Piping & instrumentation diagram

TANK INSPECTION
WHY IS TANK INSPECTION IMPORTANT?
Tank inspections are performed to ensure whether the tanks satisfy
regulatory codes and API standards or not. The interval and method of
inspection differ from case to case considering the criticality and
equipment service conditions. These inspection results are later used for
remaining life assessment studies and fit-for-service analysis.

HOW TO PERFORM TANK INSPECTION?

Tank inspection can be performed while the tank is still in-service or out-
of-service. During in-service inspection, mostly external inspections are
carried out and while out-of service, a complete integrity check of tanks
can be performed having complete access inside and around the tank.

IN-SERVICE INSPECTIONS
• Visual inspection of tank as per API recommendations.
• Examination of tank foundation and compound area.
• Rope access NDT inspection of shell walls and roof plates, including
TOFD & Ultrasonic Corrosion Mapping.
• Magnetic particle testing or liquid penetrant testing on critical areas

OUT-OF-SERVICE INSPECTIONS
• Visual inspection of tank as per API recommendations.
• Examination of tank foundation and compound area.
• Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) mapping backed up with ultrasonic
testing to locate top and bottom side corrosion on floor and annular
plates.
• Rope access non destructive testing of tank shell and roof plates,
including TOFD &Ultrasonic Corrosion Mapping.
• Magnetic particle or liquid penetrant testing on critical areas.
• Vacuum box leak testing of welds.
