Dear Ms. Brems:

We are writing to inform you about an upcoming research project we are doing in hopes to
understand social media communication in professional contexts. In a world almost defined by
technology, when 68% of adults and 79% of all American internet users have a Facebook
account (Statista 2018), we thought it would be both interesting and important to study
professional writing within the realm of social media.

For this project, we decided that we would value the insight of someone who works in the field
of Marketing/Communications and performs tasks specifically for social media. As the
Marketing/Communications Coordinator at Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic, we thought you
would be an excellent resource. We would like to kindly ask you to participate in our research
project and act as a an expert in the field who can relay insightful and educational information
about your experience as a social media writer.

We do not aim to take up much of your time. All we ask is for a brief half hour interview about
your work as a social media communicator and a short period of time during which one of our
team members can observe your work. We would also like to meet with you after we collect data
and annotate our findings to give you the opportunity to give us your input. During observations
and interviews, we promise to foster a kind environment, as to not dirupt your work and routine.
As students minoring in Professional Writing, we are a group that truly values learning about
technical/professional writing, and your involvement with this project would notably aid our
research.

For this project, we have already established a schedule that outlines set deadlines for all of our
tasks. We would ideally like to observe and interview you by March 30th. We are very willing to
work around your schedule and accommodate your needs as best we can. We would also like to
enforce that your participation in this project will remain confidential unless you communicate
otheriwse. Your name will not be used in any of our written materials, including notes,
proposals, progress reports, and any other written documents. Additionally, we will not disclose
any company information in our written work so as not to breach confidentialy policies. At the
end of our project, we would be happy to send you a copy of our research and analysis.

Our research will culminate in a website displaying what we learned about social media writing,
how we believe we can improve our own social media writing, and how our learning aids our
knowledge of professional writing. This project will not only help us learn about social media
communication, but will also prepare us for professions in communications, marketing and
branding. We specifically assembled this group because of our shared interests in these types of
fields, and learning more about social media writing will hopefully prepare us for work we might
actually be performing in our careers.

Thank you so much for your time, and we hope you consider working with us on this project. We
understand your busy schedule, and would therefore greatly appreciate your involvement. Please
email kaylajschorr@gmail.com with any questions, concerns, and hopefully an agreement to
participate. We look forward to hearing from you!

Kind regards,
Kayla Schorr, Garrett Hall, Chisom Onwuegbu and Elizabeth Kim
