_____________________________________________________________________________________________

I am currently seeking a full-time position as a music educator in the middle school setting.
I am excited for the opportunity to be considered as a candidate for this position. At the moment
I am a full-time student at the University of Louisville in my Senior year and will receive a
Bachelor of Music Education Degree in May 2018.

While in my last semester I have been given the privilege to gain teaching experience
throughout my Undergraduate experience. I began student teaching at Oldham County Middle
School in the LaGrange, Kentucky area and am going to finish out the semester at Stopher
Elementary in the Louisville area. I will complete my certification in PK-12 once I graduate. In
the time that I was teaching at Oldham County Middle School, my responsibilities were to develop
lesson plans to further the education of students in line with state and national standards of study,
while also implementing behavioral modification, and assessing learning.

I have had many opportunities to gain experience prior to student teaching. I was section
leader in Wind Ensemble, an 80+ person ensemble. I was also section leader in the University of
Louisville School Orchestra. These are auditioned ensembles. In these positions of leadership, I
learned to differentiate in my teaching styles, pacing to accomplish set goals and team
management. I am a member of our local NAFME chapter and attend KMEA every year to
connect with other teachers and learn from them as well as to build networks so that I am better
prepared as a teacher to help students succeed.

I have the ability to mentor and coach students toward successful music-related
opportunities. With me as their teacher, students will have an engaging course with a vast
repertoire. In order to educate students properly we as educators must view learning
interdisciplinary. Music is an avenue to deeper levels of learning for students across multiple
subject matters and my goal is to grow the music program by adding some diversity to the
curriculum. I will achieve this by designing and conducting a jazz band, participating in the
community by having our band program perform with theater or in community events, and
encouraging students to sign up for solo and ensemble. I will always do my best to encourage
students to form groups that meet their interest under my supervision.

Thank you again for your consideration. If you require any additional information, please
contact me at (502) 432-8051 or by email at sarai0961@icloud.com.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Walker-Burns
