Texes Competencies

Competency 001: The teacher understands human development processes and applies this

knowledge to plan instructions and ongoing assessments that motivate students and are

responsive to their developmental characteristics and needs.

 A teacher needs to keep in mind of the human development processes. It gives a

better understanding on what lesson plan should go with each age group. To know

this helps out teachers to have the best idea for what lesson plan fits the best.

Competency 002: The teacher understands student diversity and knows how to plan

learning experiences and design assessments that are responsive to differences among students

and that promote all students’ learning.

 A teacher should know that each students learns differently. For some of the

students could need more help or a different way to learn it. There should always

be more lesson that are different ways to learn not just one specific way. Lesson

should be able to help every student even if it’s not the same way for each other.

Competency 003: The teacher understands procedures for designing effective and

coherent instruction and assessment based on appropriate learning goals and objectives.

 A teacher should know how to make lessons for each learning objective. Students

need to be exposed to different kinds of lessons to master the objective they are

learning. To give the students ways to achieve the goals the teacher has set up for

them.

Competency 004: The teacher understands learning processes and factors that impact

student learning and demonstrates this knowledge by planning effective, engaging instruction

and appropriate assessments.

 A teacher needs to know there are many learning differences in their classroom.

To also keep in mind other things that can effect a student’s learning. It’s

important to have lessons to engage students and see what steps needs to be made

for the students to understand.

Competency 005: The teacher knows how to establish a classroom climate that fosters

learning, equity and excellence and uses this knowledge to create a physical and emotional

environment that is safe and productive.

 A teacher should have their classroom to accommodate each of the students.

Students need a safe place to learn and grow with their knowledge. However have

a classroom that is stable for the students emotionally. Productivity is what

students need from a teacher and their classroom.

Competency 006: The teacher understands strategies for creating an organized and

productive learning environment and for managing student behavior.

 A teacher classroom should flow and be productive for each of the students to

learn in. Having an organized room should help with knowing where everything

is for the class. Also to keep your time teaching the students their objectives.

Competency 007: The teacher understands and applies principles and strategies for

communicating effectively in varied teaching and learning contexts.

 A teacher should know how to teach and communicate it to the students. The

teacher should teach in many ways so she can get the lesson across to every

student. Communicate were the students will not be confuse or lost with the

subject.

Competency 008: The teacher provides appropriate instruction that actively engages

students in the learning process.

 A teacher goal should be to reach every students learning ability’s to bigger

heights. To make sure the students understand the objectives and to push even

more. Students should be asked questions be engaged so to make sure they

understand the lesson.

Competency 009: The teacher incorporates the effective use of technology to plan, organize,

deliver and evaluate instruction for all students.

 A teacher should keep in mind the use of technology to keep update and stay organize.

Teachers can use technology to deliver instructions and give lessons for students.

Technology can be very helpful for a teacher to teach a student.

Competency 010: The teacher monitors student performance and achievement; provides students

with timely, high-quality feedback; and responds flexibly to promote learning for all students.

 A teacher should always stay alert on student’s performance and what they have achieve

in the classroom. Students should always get some type of feedback good or bad because

that is how they know and learn. It could benefit the student to get positive feedback

because positive evaluations from the teacher may give the student more self-confidence.

Competency 011: The teacher understands the importance of family involvement in children’s

education and knows how to interact and communicate effectively with families.

 The teacher should always keep the students’ parents up to date on how he or she is doing

in class. Parent are the success for the student’s improvements it can’t just be in the

classroom. A teacher should always make the conversation with the parents smooth and

comfortable as possible.

Competency 012: The teacher enhances professional knowledge and skills by effectively

interacting with other members of the educational community and participating in various types of

professional activities.

 A teacher can always learn new things from other teachers or students. Learning new

ways to enhance to teaching skills can help your students in so many ways. A way to

learn new teaching skills is from workshops that are made available.

Competency 013: The teacher understands and adheres to legal and ethical requirements for

educators and is knowledge of the structure of education of Texas.

 There are many legal that Texas educator have to live by. It is imperative that the

teachers have knowledge of these laws and stand by them while they conduct their

lessons. It is very necessary for teachers to follow and comprehend the structure

education in Texas.
