Below is a photo taken in 1960 of a Burns Ave Kindergarten class with Mrs. Kagan.
Can anyone name the kids? Those in this shot would have graduated in 1972. Thanks
Cheryl Gries Brown 1972
I had Mrs. Kagan too, though I graduated in 1971. Funny, I only remember one incident
in her class and she treated me so kindly.
Joseph Esposito

I had her in 1967.

Diane LaMicela Noble 1979
Loved her. We were lucky to have her.

Donna Treutler Daniels 1970

Alicia Garb Greenstein 1973

Did you graduate kindergarten in 1961?

Cheryl

I was six in 1961, so probably. Started 1st grade in September 1961.

Alicia
The kids in this picture were probably one year older than you and graduated HHS in
1972.
Cheryl

Is that Debbie O'Brien front row right?

Dolores Oehler Garger 1977

I, too, had Mrs. Kagen. I will attempt to find the full photo and post it. I think the girl on
the lower left is Valerie Kubic? LOL. I know a few other faces...the names aren't
clicking.
Felicia Rybak Adorno 1972

Hope you can find the picture. Clifford Garone, last row in the middle. My son.
Mary Garone

That's right! Clifford...we were together in many classes.

Debbi Gould Coonerty 1972

I had Mrs. Kagen five years later.

Gina Marie Garone

I was in Mrs. Kagan’s kindergarten class 1961-62. Fond memories of her.

Who remembers Mrs. Kagan’s first name? (I know the answer!)

Paul Rondeau 1974

Then share, I’m going to guess Edith or Maureen.
Gina Marie

Mrs. Kagan’s name was Sadie.

Dear Bob et al,
Great set of photographs. I've fact-checked them as appropriate, and these are my
relevant comments:
Panda Hugs man’s Legs…real photo, but nothing to do with earthquake. Per Snopes,:
predates Japanese quake; originally printed in China. A giant panda holds a feeder’s legs
at the Chinese Giant Panda Protection Center in Wolong, southwest China’s Sichuan
Province, Jan. 4, 2006. China’s State Forestry Administration said on Jan. 4 that the
mainland would unveil a giant panda couple for Taiwan on Jan. 6. The Chinese mainland
would present the selected pair of giant pandas to Taiwanese compatriots as a symbol of
peace, unity and friendship.”
Road to Heaven…Real photograph, but text is bogus. Taken in Germany, not Ireland,
and alignment with stars is not a regular occurrence –

FYI, if you want to but one of the houseboats ("Iceland houseboat"), they're the work
of a Hungarian-born designer (Gabor Osros) and manufactured in Austria. In 2012, you
could buy one for only $6,500,000 U.S.

Editor note…Janet and I visited Kalapana in 2001. The lava flows were less extensive
then than they are in this photo -- but they changed a little every day. So... every couple
of days, the State Park people would have to lay out new walking paths and parking
areas. We literally parked on warm lava, and we wore good hiking shoes, because the
fresh lava was abrasive. If you reached over the ropes and touched the ground, it was
uncomfortably hot. Thanks for bringing back the memories of a wonderful experience!

Flashback
Submitted by Ron Wencer
A while ago, I was looking at digitized old newspapers as part of a personal research
project. By chance, I came across a reference to

Bruce Cerone, Class of 1964, who had been named All-County End when playing for
the Comets. I’ve since had a chance to look into his remarkable college football career,
and I thought I’d share with your readers what I’ve learned.
Bruce Cerone Class of 1969

In 1968 and 1969, Cerone attended Emporia State in Kansas. For both years, the
Associated Press named him to the “Little All American” first team – an honor reserved
for the best among all those in the country who play football at small colleges. In 1968
he tied the NAIA “college division” season mark with 15 touchdowns, and he set a new
season record for receiving yards with a total of 1,479 – exceeding the old record by 154
yards. Early in the 1969 season, he had what was then considered by the NAIA one of
the top-two single games ever played by a receiver: 17 receptions, 293 yards, 2
touchdowns. By then Cerone already had broken the NAIA career receiving yards record
(previously held by Willie Richardson, who went on to play for the Baltimore Colts). On
Christmas Day that year, Cerone played in the North-South All-Star game.

In 1999, Cerone was inducted into the Emporia State University Football Hall of Fame:
Cerone played two seasons 1968 & 1969 for the Emporia State Hornets. A native of
Hicksville, NY, he is the NCAA Division II all-time leader in touchdown receptions with
49 and ranks among NCAA single-season and career leaders in receptions, yards and
touchdowns. As a senior, he caught 77 passes for 1,315 yards and 13 touchdowns.
During his career at ESU, he led the nation in receiving with a national record 164.3
yards per game in 1968 and 146.1 yards per game in 1969. He was a two-time, first-team
AP, NCAA and NAIA All-American. In addition, he was an All-NAIA District 10
performer and All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pick. He is the ESU career,
season and game leader in receiving yards and TD receptions. He came to Emporia State
after attending Yankton College.

Emporia State NFL Draft Choices

Year Round Overall Name Team Position School

1991 7 173 Leon Lett Cowboys DT Emporia State
1979 5 118 Steve Henry Cardinals DB Emporia State
1976 13 373 Steve Hamilton Rams QB Emporia State
1974 8 195 Mike Donimarck Lions LB Emporia State
1973 4 89 John Lohmeyer Chiefs DE Emporia State
1970 16 407 Steve Bushore Redskins WR Emporia State

1970 16 415 Bruce Cerone Vikings WR Emporia State

1967 11 272 Jim Whitcomb Steelers WR Emporia State

Although drafted by the Minnesota Vikings, following the 1969 season, Cerone never
made it to an NFL playing field. Nonetheless, as a college athlete, he was superb, and his
record is truly memorable.
Below is a photo of the "Night-Riders", the “First Rock Band” at West Point Military
Academy. It was a unique group and the reason for its creation was the “tenacity” of
Tommy Sullivan who never gave up seeing it become a reality.

It is comprised of 5 servicemen in the U.S. Army Band stationed at West Point and one
civilian, Carolyn. The U.S. Army Band on post played at reveille, taps, parades, military
funerals, cadet dances, etc.

Here is the lineup in the photo. Carolyn & Tommy were part of the original group the
“Brooklyn”.

Carolyn Wood Sullivan- keyboard, vocals

Tommy Sullivan- arranger, guitar, vocals
Gerry Cappuccio- saxophone, flute, piccolo Bill Jordan- bass guitar, vocals
Bill Jordan – bass guitar
Jimmy Walker- drums, vocals
Sammy Goss- trumpet
(At some other times the sax player was Dave Townsend, not pictured above)

Below is an article from an Army newspaper about the "Night-Riders" circa 1966-1967.
This will give you more background.
The original members of the Brooklyn Bridge were Johnny Maestro from the Crests, Fred
Ferraro, Les Cauchi and Mike Gregorio from the Del Satins. Then there were the
musicians Tom Sullivan (1963), Carolyn Wood (1963), Jim Rosica (1965), Joe Ruvio
(1966) Shelly Davis (1967), Artie Catanzarita (1967) and Richie Macioce from Valley
Stream, all members of the Rhythm Method Band.
Tom’s first band in high school was The Night Riders and consisted of Tommy Sullivan,
John Foley (1964) , Bill Jordan (1963) and Jimmy Walker (1965).
After playing at The Cloud Nine A GoGo in 1968, a woman who said she represented
Betty Sperber Management approached Jim Rosica and asked who represented them. Jim
said, "Well, I guess I do and my friend Tommy Sullivan" She asked if they could go into
Manhattan the next day and meet with Betty Sperber & Johnny Maestro. Johnny Maestro
asked if they would be interested in merging their bands - The Del-Satins and The
Rhythm Method. Del-Satins had three members and The Rhythm Method had seven
members - the new band that was to be called "Brooklyn Bridge" now had eleven
members with Maestro as the lead singer.
Betty Sperber called Dave Zahn, President of Banner Talent to give him the news. When
Dave Zahn heard there would be eleven members he replied trying to sell that is like
trying to sell The Brooklyn Bridge. Betty hangs up the phone and says to Jim and
Tommy the name of the group is Brooklyn Bridge. It wasn't Johnny Maestro & The
Brooklyn Bridge - it wasn't even "The", it was just Brooklyn Bridge.

Jim Rosica, Joe Ruvio and Les Cauchi are members of the original Brooklyn Bridge still
performing in 2018.

This School Didn't 'Condone' Today's Walkouts, And
Instead Offered Students Post-it Notes to Write Down
Their Feelings

"A post-it note won't change laws."

By Rose Minutaglio
Mar 14, 2018

After administration officials at Hicksville High School in Hicksville, New York

announced they did not "encourage or condone a walkout" in conjunction with today's
protests across the U.S., they offered students the option to engage in "silent reflection"
by writing their feelings on post-it notes, according students.
"In place of the walkout, we were given post-it notes to write about what we were
feeling about gun violence and the lives of those murdered at Parkland," Hicksville
senior Rafeed Hossain tells Cosmopolitan.com. "As the teacher was giving these out,
he told us that he would not stop us from walking out, but that all the doors in the
school were blocked by security and that there was a police officer outside who would
take us back into the auditorium, where we 'may or may not' have consequences. "It's
an act of injustice."
Hossain, 17, decided to use his "feelings" post-it (he ended up using four) to send a
strong message to those in charge. He posted a photo of his powerful words on Twitter:
A post-it note won't change laws. A post it note does not vindicate the 17 lives that
were brutally murdered on that day. A post-it note is not standing up for the lives of us
students who fear for our lives every day...
From Columbine to Parkland, from Colorado movie theaters to the Boston
Marathon, from elementary school children at Sandy Hook to college students at
Virginia Tech, this has happened too many times.
Congress, it's time to act. Mr. President, get off your high horse and get things done.
We are tired of this, of living in a world where mass shootings are in the news every
day...
I, as well as millions of other students are tired of hearing about kids like us getting
killed.
It's time to act. Act now.
"The thing that I got most angry at was that our principal said it was important for
us to 'Express our rights as students,' " explains Hossain. "But if we wanted to walk
out, we could [face consequences]? That seems very contradictory to me."
"I was going to walk out definitely, but we had been shut down," he says. "The
Parkland shooting hit me really hard because it was kids just like me, who were going
to college next year, kids who had goals and aspirations. That could've been my school
and my friends that were hurt and killed in a shooting."
Rafeed Hossain.
COURTESY OF RAFEED HOSSAIN.

Hossain there was no walkout at all at the Hicksville school today. In a letter posted
to the school's website, Superintendent of Schools Carl Bonuso, Ed.D. explained that
the demonstration would "interrupt the educational program but also miss an
opportunity to engage students in lessons about what it means to unify as a school
family and effectively communicate our opinions and ideas." Bonuso encouraged
students to instead participate in a "Day of Unity" by wearing school colors and writing
"personal messages to be included in a tribute to victims and survivors of gun violence.
Students may also write letters to legislators or engage in discussions or silent
reflection."
When asked for a comment from the school, Cosmopolitan.com was referred to
Bonuso's letter.

HICKSVILLE DAY OF UNITY

Dear Hicksville High School Parents and Guardians

As you may know, on Wednesday, March 14th at 10am, many students around our county
and country have discussed a possible school walkout for 17 minutes in response to last
month’s horrific tragedy in Parkland, Florida resulting in the loss of 17 lives.
The central office, building administration and staff have been meeting with dozens of
student representatives to discuss how our Hicksville School Community can respect,
reflect and appropriately honor the victims of this tragedy.
Students, staff, and the Hicksville school family acknowledge the dual mission to educate
students and provide for their safety and well-being. As a result, the school does not
encourage or condone a walkout. To do so would not only interrupt the educational
program but also miss an opportunity to engage students in lessons about what it means
to unify as a school family and effectively communicate our opinions and ideas.
As a result we are declaring March 14th a “Hicksville Day of Unity”. We encourage
students to wear the Hicksville colors of black and/or orange. High school principal, Mr.
Williams, will deliver a message of unity and support at 10:00am. Students will be given
opportunities in their classes prior to and on March 14 to write personal messages to be
included in a tribute to victims and survivors of gun violence. Students may also write
letters to legislators or engage in discussions or silent reflection. The 17 minute tribute
will end with a moment of silence.
The Board of Education joins me in thanking our students and staff for collaboratively
developing a day designed to pay respect to those lost and hear the voices and feelings of
students in the confines of a safe environment. Let's continue to work together in hopes
of having such tragedies come to an end for this and future generations.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Sincerely,
Carl Bonuso, Ed.D

Rafeed says he stands by what he wrote—and he's frustrated with the admin.
"It felt right," he explains. "I have anger at them for keeping us down as a class and not
letting us join the rest of the nation in protest of the laws that we have in place that let
tragedies like Parkland happen. I shared [my note] on Twitter because it's an act of
injustice that the world should know about, that some schools are too scared to let us
peacefully assemble outside for 17 minutes."

Some things never change, unfortunately. Students at Hicksville school threatened with
discipline during walkout. Instead of unity with the countless students calling for gun
control across the country, students at one Hicksville school were met with adversity and
discipline.
Patricia Ruggero

Enemies of our first amendment. How American...not!

Kenneth Cotugno
The administration later admitted that the students would not be suspended or punished -
but why did those teachers/hall monitors block stairways and physically pull students
back inside by their jacket hoods? It’s 1950’s again.
Patricia

Not in NYC.
Kenneth

In the early 70's I was always walking out !!

Judy Bates

Terrible.
Ira Friedman

Suspension (or any punishment) and harassment by staff for 17 minutes of peaceful,
planned protest about a critical issue?? Shameful!!
Rich Lari

Yes, it was peaceful and brief. They said the Pledge of Allegiance, were silent for 17
minutes, (one minute for each student shot), and returned to class.
Patricia

A bunch of schools in Nassau and Suffolk were punishing kids. Apparently, the "powers
that be" don't "get it." It's a shame!!!
Judy Vianest Piccolomini

Does anyone remember when everyone in the High School walked out and staged a "sit
in" against the Viet Nam war? Nothing was done to us.
Mary DeNicola

Exactly. They should be proud of them. Brave kids.

Patricia

A few years ago, a teacher pushed a student down that staircase for misbehaving. Yes,
let's give them guns and more ammunition.
Lucy Oliva

Mrs. Redding might have shot the girls who had mini skirts that were too short.
Edward Smith
They took a break from their usual punishment for going up the down staircase.
Doug Lobel

And here I thought that was an inaccurate memory of mine, Doug!

Patricia

I heard they want to knock that down and put up a new one.
Bill Becker

Really?
Diane Ingoglia

There are many plans to upgrade the facility - but no plans to raze the building.
Kevin ‘

Interesting. We will be busting out of the seems when Seritage and the downtown.
Apartments come in.
Lorraine Quigley Burnard

Still in Hicksville. I've heard nothing about this.

Lynne Lombardi

Part of both the bond and the capital project that was recently approved.
Kevin

I heard renovations and pool in the HS - nothing about raising the building.
Lynne

The building is not being razed. Only renovations and upgrades.

Kevin

https://www.hicksvillepublicschools.org/.../Bond...
Lynne

Lynne Lombardi yes slide 4 shows the HMS renovations. There is also a presentation on
the 2017-18 capital projects that provides more detail on HMS renovations. Including
gym floor, indoor bleachers, bathrooms, track & field, flooring ceilings, elevator, drop off
circle on 4th st., etc.
Kevin
Never know in this town; so many things going on and wrong information or lack of
information. Isn’t honestly discussed with Civics because of their connections with the
TOB. Believe me this is the truth.
Lorraine

Renovations have nothing to do with TOB. They were discusses at BOE meetings and
updates provided on website.
Kevin

Information about our town & school is discussed at Civic meetings.

Lorraine

Before I sold my mom's house in Hicksville in October of 2017, I had attended Civic
Association meetings and didn't hear mention of renovations to the Middle School. The
Civic association helps the community from what I saw. I still belong for they have an
Oil Consortium that can get less expensive home heating oil!! Saves me a bundle!
Felicia Rybak Adorno

The civic I can’t say the same for the civic I’m familiar with. I don’t follow on what
You’re saying about the Oil. How does that work
Lorraine

...you can attend a meeting or email the Civic Assoc and get the info there however you
must do this before the end of the month.
I am not to sure why you're putting down the Civic Assoc's?? I figured you went to
meetings and didn't care for what they talked about?
Felicia

I was involved with the NW Civic assoc and this was never mentioned. This is what they
are about the Republican Party. You have to have the same views as they do. This is
them.
Lorraine
They clearly don’t represent the community They are supposed to be apolitical which
they are not. Not to mention a extremely rude President.
Lorraine

I have had no problem with them.

Felicia

Who was the president at the time ? Joel ?

Lorraine

Yes…Joel who I had no problem with.

Felicia

Saladino has his octopus arms around them. That is the difference right there.
Lorraine

Looks like you’re not a fan of Saladino either...lol.

Felicia

Not at all. A lot of lies. It’s not a new day in Oyster Bay. Same corruption or possibly
worse.
Lorraine

It would've horrific to destroy the beautiful Middle school.

Eileen Wieditz Moore
It’s not being destroyed. District and BOE are very much in tune to the unique
architecture. Just needed upgrades.
Kevin

I took the attached picture early one morning but I cannot remember the year. Had to be
prior to February of 2009 when I moved from Hicksville to Augusta, Georgia.
Buffalo Bob

Looks like a storm was coming in. Gray sky.

Lorraine

Actually, the sun was coming up and I switched the camera setting to backlighting that
gives it a grayish effect. There is some light showing through the trees that was the sun
rising high into the sky.
Buffalo Bob

Old buildings were built to last Not the trash of today. Look at the Parking Garage in
Hicksville on Duffy & Newbridge.
John Anthony

That was all the pay to play corruption.

Lorraine

What do you think this new guy is going to do ?

John

What new guy???

Lorraine
Saladino.
John

I think he’s worse then Venditto.

Lorraine

No kidding. And he hasn't even begun yet.

John

Hopefully he’s not long for that job.

Lorraine

Well, people are like sheep that have to be lead And he seems to be their Sheperd. There
are a lot of AIR HEADS around and all looking for a hand out.
John

A note from Lorraine to Kevin…Where can we find info as to what upgrades they plan
on doing?

Hicksville school district website. I’ll post a link later.

Kevin

No worries I can find it thanks

Dear Editors…Looks like somebody “pranked” you for April Fool’s Day. The History
piece in the April Newsletter was not up to your usual standard. It could have been
checked at (among other places) https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/false-captain-
kangaroo-court/
Mr. Rogers was never in the military. As his Wikipedia bio notes, there have been
persistent rumors to the contrary, all without merit.
Lee Marvin was badly wounded in the Pacific – but he never made it to Iwo Jima. He
received a Purple Heart at the earlier Battle of Saipan, an action for which his entire
regiment also received a special citation. He did NOT receive a Navy Cross.
If Lee Marvin had seen Bob Keeshan at the start of the Battle of Saipan, he would have
been watching a civilian lad of 16. Keeshan enlisted after Iwo Jima. He served in the
USMC until after the end of WWII, but he was never deployed overseas in wartime.

Editor note…it makes for a great fictional story!!!
Instructions for properly hugging a baby (from a dog's point of view)

1. First, uh, find a baby.

2. Second, be sure that the object you found was indeed a baby, by employing classic
sniffing techniques.

3 Next, you will need to flatten the baby before actually beginning the hugging process.
4. The 'paw slide.' Simply slide paws around baby and prepare for possible close-up.

5. Finally, if a camera is present, you will need to execute the difficult, patented 'hug,
smile, and lean' so as to achieve the best photo quality.
Most seniors never get enough exercise. In His wisdom, God decreed that seniors
become forgetful so they would have to search for their glasses, keys, and other
things, thus doing more walking. And God looked down and saw that it was good.
Then God saw there was another need. In His wisdom He made seniors lose
coordination so they would drop things, requiring them to bend, reach, and stretch.
And God looked down and saw that it was good.
Then God considered the function of bladders and decided seniors would have
additional calls of nature, requiring more trips to the bathroom, thus providing
more exercise. God looked down and saw that it was good.
So if you find as you age, you are getting up and down more, remember it’s God’s
will. It is all in your best interest even though you mutter under your breath.

a reminder that the new edition is available on the web site http://hixnews.com along with
all the previous editions back to the beginning. You can visit the website at any time.
Roger Whitaker, HixNews webmaster

Hello to all…Thank you for your dedicated efforts to produce the Best alumni news ever.
I would endorse a pay raise for your staff should the subject be introduced at your future
staff meetings. We are experiencing a delivery problem in that we have not received our
copy of the news for the last two months. I am still listed as a member. Would you
investigate this and cause a correction so we again will receive the best alumni news.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter. All the best.
Marty Polsenski 1959
Editor note…We are very glad you are enjoying the HixNews, Martin. The email you
were getting every month was just a notice that the hixnews.com web site has been
updated with the latest edition of the newsletter. It is updated by the first of the month.
Since the death of Henry Lichtenstein, the notices have not been going out since he was
the one who sent the notice and he was the administrator of the site. Plus, we don't have
access to that Google group. We hope to get a new one set up soon.
Regards…Roger Whitaker, webmaster

HixNews…I must have slipped through the cracks or more likely I did something! I
no longer live in Pennsylvania. I have a new address now living in Hewlett.
Thanks
Robert W Hildenbrand 1958
Editor note…Robert, we have your correct email address. The problem has been with our
notification system. Hixnews.com is actually on the web site at hixnews.com and is
updated by the first of each month so the latest edition is always there. What we were
sending out was just a notification that the latest edition is now available.
We hope to have a new notification system in place so folks will, once again, get the
reminders.
Roger Whitaker, webmaster for hixnews.com

Bob…I haven’t received the newsletter for a few months. Please reinstate me.
Thank you,
Donna Lombardi LaFramboise 1966

The current issue of the Hicksville Newsletter (HixNews) is live on our website at
http://hixnews.com and will remain live until the end of the month. We receive
many notes from readers saying they have not received the newsletter. We do not send
the newsletter to anyone because it is on a website that was established in 2005. Also, in
the menu at the top of the Newsletter Home Page, there is a section called Archives that
contains almost every issue published since 2000 after the Mega Reunion. Click on any
month and you can view the newsletter for that month. You should be able to access the
current issue by clicking the hyperlink that is shown above, underlined. The notice
that you all normally receive, via email, that the current issue is alive was being sent via
the Google Master list and Henry Lichtenstein was the moderator. Nothing would be sent
until he okayed the submission. Unfortunately, Henry passed away in November and no
notices have been sent since his passing. That is why no one has gotten a notice…the
notice that was never sent. You can always view the newsletter!!!
In some instances, it is necessary to copy the link and paste into your browser to gain
access. If you continue to have problems, please send a note to
editors@hixnews.com and we will try to remedy your dilemma.

Thank you Bob. So sorry to hear of Henry’s passing . He was a good friend of the HHS
alumni! Go Comets!
Donna
Request HixNews on my new email account (concealed). Thank You!
Bob Uhlich 1957
Editor note… Robert, your new email address has been updated in our master list. At
present, following the death of Henry Lichtenstein, who handled the monthly notices, we
have not been sending out the monthly emails about the latest edition of HixNews being
available on hixnews.com . We're not actually sending subscribers the newsletter, but are
just letting folks know that it is now online along with all previous editions.
Roger Whitaker, webmaster for hixnews.com

I’ve missed the last few months of HixNews and realized I didn’t notify you of the
change in my email address (concealed). Thank you.
Rich Delia 1968
Editor note…Richard, I have updated the master spreadsheet. However, the monthly
notices have not been going out since the death of Henry Lichtenstein who managed that
function. New issues are posted to the web site around the first of each month and are
always available online. The notices are just reminders that the new issue is available.

Dear Roger,
It is with great sadness that I write to advise that another Hicksville High School Alumni
has passed. On March 9, 2018, my brother-in-law, Dennis F. Gunnigle passed away at the
age of 71. He was a Class of 1965 graduate of HHS. He is survived by his wife, my
sister, Marcia, nee. Schram, Class of 1967, a son and daughter, their spouses and 4
grandchildren. Please update the In Memoriam Column.
Sincerely
Catherine Schram Hess 1965
Editor note…Catherine, sorry to learn of your family's loss. In Memoriam for the class
of '65 has been updated.
Roger Whitaker, Webmaster for HixNews

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the unexpected passing of my long time friend

Eddie D’Amico from the class of 1975. Anyone who knew him loved him. There will be
a viewing at Vernon C Wagner in Hicksville on Saturday April 7 from 5-9.
Michael Hare

Hi fellow HHS grads. This is John Wycoff class of 1955. I wanted to tell you that my
buddy Henry Chupka passed away late last year in Ocala. FL. I got a note from his
daughter Kristen Rokosz. She lives in Nesconset, 11Cobbelstone Ct. 11767. I had sent
him a Christmas card not knowing he had passed. We were great friends. If I'm not
mistaken Pat Driscoll was his cousin. Love the newsletter. Go Comets!
John

Sadly two people from my graduating class of 2005 passed away this past week or so.
Matthew Cummings and Thomas Mantello. Both still lived in Hicksville I think (says
Bethpage but I don’t think that's correct). Awful having people go so young!!!

I probably cannot attend.

Marianne Bosman 1974

We'll meet up somehow.

Cathy

I put the date on my calendar!

Mary DeNicola

Cannot wait to see you. ❤

Cathy
I’m not coming!

Mindy Pape 1975

That you can totally forget. Even if I have to drag you there. Besides.. How would I get
there and which train would I take?? Lol
Cathy

Hitch. Stick out your thumb and catch the coolest car you can see or…Uber. Taxi. Walk.
Its only 5 miles from where you are staying. Ha ha ha
Cathy

Oh wait. The KP train is 2 stops away from St James.

Mindy

LMAO

Your treat.
Craig Wohl 1975

All depends. Lol

Cathy

Whoever wants to see our beloved Cathy Rowan?

Mindy Pape

Absolutely! My Brother Joe Lives in St. James. Also has 2 casual restaurants. One
Tex/Mex , One Burger Type and both are located on Main Street. Maybe we can get
together at one of them. Real Cheap!
Mary DeNicola

Do you know how far it is from the LI rail road?

Shari Hinden 1975

It’s a 2 minute drive or a 6 to 10 minute walk. Literally up the road.
Mindy

What where???
Shari

Shari. Start from the beginning of this post.

Mindy

So it says where and when but there were 900 people in our grad class. How many people
has this been sent to? And are you keeping track how many people are coming?
Thanksfor the info, Mindy.
Shari

Sorry, I won't be in New York then!

Christine Weiss Winberry

Darn!!!
Cathy

I'm coming in Christmas week, Will miss everyone.

Susan Poppe-O’Connor
Whoa!!! Susan. What? Where? When?!?!
Mindy Pape

Not sure exactly of the dates but I plan to be coming in the week for Christmas to see my
family and celebrate a few birthdays. I will be in the Manorville area. I haven't been with
my family for Christmas in at least 27 years. I think it's time!
Susan

Sorry you won't be there for our planned reunion.

Cathy

Let’s get together one day let me know.

Phyllis Lamberti Busch

Will do.
Cathy

Are there 50th reunion plans for the class of 1968?

Steve Stanton 1968

I checked several sites and sent out a message to some of your classmates. Nothing is
planned as far as I can tell. Two of the 90 whom I sent an email responded and they
knew of no plans. If I hear something, I will let you know.
buffalo bob Casale

Nothing on my end from the outskirts of Hershey, PA. The last one I was aware of was
the 20th, which I attended.

Richie Bowra

Thanks for responding. You are the only one out of 80 emails I sent out that has
responded so far!!! I have the same problem getting people to write something for the
newsletter. No one sends me anything. Hope you are well.
Buffao Bob Casale

Dear HixNews…not that I’ve seen in Newsday. Hey…we were 68... now we're 68. Go
figure!!!

Bob Bittner

Thanks for your response. Is this typical or is my class unusually apathetic?

Steve

Typical of most classes. I send out birthday and anniversary cards to almost 2,000 former
classmates. I ask that whomever I send to please let me know about a special birthday or
anniversary. I've had one response and two who said they would send me something at a
later date. It's like pulling teeth to get some input. I've been using Facebook to gather
information that I put into the newsletter. Otherwise I would have nothing.
The four I've heard from so far...Bob Bittner...Ed Cochran...Rich Bowra…Marianne
Carine. I guess there is no reunion. Thanks again
bob

I had exactly 4 responses to the email I sent out a few months back, so I've given up.
Maybe someone who lives on the east coast would take up the job and get something
organized. Between the health issues that have cropped up over the last few months, and
the fact that I live out west, it's just become too difficult. Thanx for your interest, Bob.
Marianne Carine Hoerner 1968

I'm interested.

Things People from Long Island Will Have To Explain

If someone on Long Island says they’re heading to “the city” it means they’re headed to
Manhattan. While this whole area is part of the NYC metro, Manhattan is typically the
center of the action.
With both LaGuardia and JFK international airports in Queens, nearly every visitor to
New York City starts out on Long Island. From there, it’s incredibly easy to get to the
rest of the city.
With 9 Bridges and 13 tunnels connecting Long Island to the other boroughs, it’s one of
the most accessible islands in the world. Its ease of access makes it ideal for people that
want to experience life in Manhattan on a regular basis without the huge amount of stress
from living in the city that never sleeps.
With 7.5 million people living on Long Island, the roads can get pretty backed up. Due to
the unique shape of this island that’s no wider than 23 miles, roadways tend to get pretty
congested come rush hour.
The idea of actually driving into the city is pretty crazy. Not only is the traffic insane
during almost any hour of the day, but parking is absolutely miserable. The best way to
get from Long Island to Manhattan is by public transportation. Get used to learning all of
the quickest subway routes.
