SAN Valley Systems Announces General Availability Of SL1000 IP-

SAN Gateway and SVS Management System
- Released for Production in September, the SAN Valley SL1000 Leads

The Industry in Cost/Performance for Remote SAN Connectivity -

CAMPBELL, Calif., Oct. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- SAN Valley Systems announced

today the general availability of the SAN Valley SL1000 IP-SAN Gateway and
associated SVS Management System. With four full-duplex wire-speed channels
and a list price under $30,000, the SL1000 leads the industry in functionality
and price/performance for connecting Storage Area Networks (SANs).
The 8-port SL1000 provides high-throughput Fibre Channel to Internet
Protocol (FCIP) encapsulation supporting Quality of Service (QoS), traffic
shaping and flow control services. SAN Valley uses patent-pending algorithms
to enable connectivity with wire-speed performance across distances of up to
500 km and significantly greater reach at lower speeds. A one-rack-unit
product, the SL1000 delivers seamless connectivity of Fibre Channel SAN
resources across metropolitan and wide area networks (MAN/WAN) and is designed
to be fully interoperable with leading storage and networking vendors.
The SVS Management System provides a comprehensive, centralized resource
to manage provisioning, operation and performance of remote SAN connectivity.
Using SNMP, the Management System provides control of configuration, event,
fault and performance parameters across the network. These capabilities
enable network administrators to proactively monitor network performance and
manage service level agreements. In addition, the application integrates with
widely used management platforms such as Computer Associates(TM) Unicenter,
Tivoli(R) NetView(R) and HP OpenView. The list price of the SVS Management
System is $995.
SAN Valley technology enables customers to utilize Internet Protocol (IP)
networks or MAN/WAN optical networks to connect SAN resources for rapid
deployment of remote storage applications such as backup and disaster
recovery. The company's technology enables its partners to offer end-to-end
storage networking solutions to their customers. SAN Valley products leverage
existing Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet infrastructures to minimize
customer costs and maximize return on investments.
Approximately 20 companies have tested the SL1000 extensively over the
past 6 months for compatibility, reliability and performance in storage
applications over a wide range of equipment, networking architectures and
traffic loads, substantiating the product's interoperability and viability in
the enterprise, service provider and carrier environments.
"Marrying the SL1000 with our MultiFlow(TM) 5000 family of switches allows
users to implement multiple Fibre Channel SAN and Gigabit Ethernet LAN
connections over a single 80 km fiber or WDM wavelength, taking advantage of
Anritsu's optimized OC-48 IP transport," said Mike Arredondo, director of
Anritsu Company's Network Solutions Division. "We have conducted extensive
interoperability testing with SAN Valley to establish the reliability and
performance of this solution, and are looking forward to seeing it deployed
among users in the rapidly growing MAN/WAN storage networking market."
President and CEO of SAN Valley Systems Bob Coackley said, "There has been
a tremendous amount of interest in the SL1000. We have the best
cost-to-performance ratio in the business, which is a major benefit to our
enterprise customers and channel partners. And, as we transition from product
development to actively marketing and selling the SL1000, the strength of
these relationships substantiates our business model and is an indicator of
our future success."
"The need for companies to get maximum value from their networked storage
has never been more apparent," said Michael Karp, senior analyst with
Enterprise Management Associates, a leading industry analysis firm based in
Boulder, CO. "Customers have long-since tired of being their own integrators
and now demand solutions that have been proven in multiple environments. When
a vendor commits to vigorous interoperability and reliability testing in
real-world settings, customers can have greater assurance that their next
choice will be a secure one."
Within the next few weeks, the company expects to announce agreements with
companies in multiple distribution channels. SAN Valley is working with
systems integrators, networking equipment providers and OEM partners to enable
worldwide availability for its products.
"Maximizing our channel opportunities is just one way SAN Valley is
showing its commitment to customer satisfaction," said Peter Jordan, vice
president of sales at SAN Valley. "Making it easy to do business with us is
of utmost importance, and we have the sales, support and training resources in
place to realize that objective."
