UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:


● Counting by 5’s and introduction to a number line.

LESSON OBJECTIVE:
● Each student will be asked to count out to me, by 5’s to 100.
● Given a worksheet with number lines, Student will be able to identify and fill in the missing numbers of
the number line.

Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence.

MATERIALS:
● Pencil
● Water base paint
● Paper Plate
● Construction paper
● Number line worksheet

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:


● To enable the student to grasp the concept of counting by 5’s
● To enable the student to categorically place the numbers that are derived of 5.
● This lesson adds to our counting calendar. We have already learned how to count by 2’s.
● This lesson will be integrated into future addition lessons. Counting by fives will help them with higher
addition when dealing with counting by 5’s.
● This enables students will to learning early Microsoft skills for technology advancement and understanding.
● Some of the activity will be modified depending on the needs of the student. (If needed)
PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:
● Introduction: Good day students! Can you tell me how many fingers I am holding up? Now, what if I
add this hand to it? Today we will be learning about counting by 5’s.

● Procedures:

Before Computer: 15 Mins


Teacher: Passes out counting worksheet.
1. Everyone student take your pencils out and get them in ready position.
2. You will fill in the missing number on the worksheet.
3. If you need help raise your hand and I will come to you.
4. Once finish put your assignment in the assignment box.
5. Return to your seat and sit quietly.

Student:
1. Gets pencils out.
2. Writes their name on the top of the paper.
3. Fills out the worksheet.
4. Turns the worksheet into the assignment box.
5. Walks back to seat and waits for the next part of the assignment.

Computer Time: 30 mins


Teacher:
1. Everyone get to your computer desk.
2. Sign into your class work page.
3. You will first work on the Curious George count game.
4. Once the bell sounds (10 mins) you will then go to the next assignment on your class page.
5. You will then log into the next website.
6. Once on Vocaroo I want you to hit the record button
7. You will record yourself counting to 50 by 5’s
8. Once everyone has their assignment recorded. I will come help copy and paste it in a Microsoft
document.
9. Save the document in your student assignment box. I will come around and help everyone place the
assignment in the drop box.
10. I will ring the bell again when it is time to end this assignment and exit off the computer.

Student:
1. Sits at the computer desk
2. Logs into the class page
3. Clicks on the Curious George link.
4. Exits out of the first assignment at the ringing of the bell.
5. Clicks on the hot air balloon link.
6. Works until the bell sounds to end this assignment.
7. Clicks on the Vocaroo app.
8. Records counting from 5 to 50 by 5’s.
9. Saves recording
10. Opens a blank sheet in Microsoft word
11. Paste the link on the page
12. Types their name and date on the top of the page.
13. Raises hand for submission help.
14. Exits off the computer.
15. Walks back to assigned seat.

● Closure: Now class, Clear your desk. We will make the number 5 using our fingers. Everyone will take
a sheet of construction paper and paper plate. I will go around the room and pour some paint on the
plate. I will ask them to place their hand on the paper enough times that their fingers equal the number
15. They will then put their hand in the paint, palm down and place it on the paper (3 times). They will
then write their name on the paper and put it on the art wall. I will also offer to give them different color
paint every time they place their hand in the paint. Once our project is complete we will walk in a single
file line to the bathroom to wash our hands.

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:
● Students should be able to count by 5’s and easily recognize the numbers that are variables of 5. They
will be enhancing their math skills that will help them in later school lessons and years.

MODIFICATIONS:
● Students that are having a hard time catching on to the material will be giving a count by 5’s sheet that is
completed.
● Students that have progressed ahead will be giving a harder worksheet that has more spaces to fill in.
