Question 2

Read the following text. Then, answer question (a) – (j).

Teeth the only bones in our body that are not covered by flesh. Whenever we smile
or laugh, we see them. Teeth play an important role to make us enjoy our food and help us to
chew. Teeth bite and chew food so that it is small enough to be swallowed. We also need
them to talk. Different teeth work with our tongue and lips to help us form sounds.

To prevent our teeth from rotting, we have to observe certain good rules. First, we
need to brush our teeth thus preventing pain in the gums. It is recommended that we brush
our teeth in the morning, at night and after meals, to ensure a clean sparkling set of teeth.
Regular dental check-ups should also be done.

In between dentist visits, we can prevent problems by eating fewer sugary snacks and
sugary drinks , such as soda. Excess sugar can damage our teeth and cause tooth decay. We
should eat food as such as dairy products to have strong teeth.

If we take care our teeth now, we’ll be chewing like a champ for the rest of our lives!

Question 4

Read the article about ways to help a victim who feels faint.

Fainting can be frightening thing, especially when you do not know why it is happening or what
to do. It is more frightening than serious, but do take precautions. Here are ways you can take care of
yourself or someone else it occurs.

To avoid injuries, try to stop the victim from falling to the ground. If the person is standing
upright, lay him down on the ground or sit him down on a couch. Make sure it is not a chair without
armrests. This will still allow the victim to fall off it and cause injury.

Next, open the window or door to allow more air into the room. Another way to help a person
who feels faint is to get a cold compress and place it on the forehead. Wrap the compress in a cloth
before applying it.

When the victim recovers from the fainting spell, get the person back into an upright sitting
position slowly. Continue to give the victim support, even after they are sitting upright. Don’t allow him
to walk immediately. If the person is conscious, then give him some water. Don’t let him gulp a
mouthful of water. Make sure he takes small sips at a time to prevent choking.

If you feel faint, you may be able to take these steps. If possible, lie down. This can help prevent
fainting as it allows blood to circulate to the brain. Don’t let yourself get dehydrated. Drink enough
fluids, especially when your body is losing more water due to sweating or being in a warm environment.

Finally, ensure there is good blood circulation. If you have to stand or sit for a long time,
periodically stretch your leg muscles. Also, cross your legs to help improve blood flow to the heart and
brain. Try to avoid overheated or cramped areas. Call 999 for help if someone who has fainted for
about a minute still does not regain consciousness or is having difficulty breathing.

Good morning to the Principal, teachers and fellow students. I am here on this ‘Prize

part of the student to be successful.

First and foremost, a student has to be very hardworking. As the saying goes, “No Pain,
No Gain”. A student has to work hard in all aspects of his or her life. Only then the student will
achieve the intended goals. If you want to score A’s, then you will have to put in 4 to 5 hours of
study daily at home apart from studying in school.

In addition, being disciplined is very important. To be hardworking, you need to be

disciplined, in terms of being punctual to school, being attentive in class, finishing up homework
and doing eraly preparation for tests and examinations. To be able to do all tehse, having positive
attitudes and values play important roles. The never give-up attitude should be instilled in you.
Only then success will come your way.

Besides, time management is important. A student has to study, does school work,
homework, faces examinations and also needs to cope with extra-curricular activities. It is also

equally important to spend leisure time with family and friends. So, the student has to manage his
time wisely. A personal timetable can be very useful.

Lastly, you should choose your friends wisely. Good, sensible friends will help you
