Integrated Approach
We are constantly looking at potential issues that may impact the performance of Float Valves.
Float Valves are run to prevent Drilling Fluids from back flowing up the Drill String to the surface. It is basically
a one way or Downhole Check Valve.
Float Valves may be used for additional Well Control and also to protect high cost tools such as Rotary
Steerables, MWD/LWD etc from Drilling Fluid, Cuttings and Metal Debris flowing up the Drill String whilst
running in the hole.
Stacey provides a full line of Float Valves, Repair
Kits, Baffle Plates and Valve Puller Tools, cover-
ing a wide range of Drilling Conditions, along with
Milling and Plugging/Abandonment operations.

Standard Service Valves
Model F is a Plunger – Type Float Valve that provides a positive instantaneous shut off, providing contact fluid
control while drilling.
Model FA
Model FC
Model G is a Flapper-Type Float Valve that, when opened
offers an unobstructed bore through the Float Valve.
Model GA
Model GC
Model GCA is an Automatic-Fill/Pressure-Monitoring
Flapper Type Float Valve which includes all advantages
of the Models G, GC and GA.
Model GCA
Model GS & GSA are Valves for High Flow Rates with either ported or non ported Flappers built into the side
of the valve body.
Metal and Rubber Repair Kits available for all Float Valves.
Valve Pullers are an essential tool in the removal of Float Valves from the Bit Sub/Float Sub. Model G Pullers
serve dual purposes as they are also used in removing and installing of the seal retainer ring when changing
out the valve seal.
Baffle Plates can be placed on top of the drill-pipe float valve to help prevent damage from recorders or other
wire-line tools that are dropped down the string.
Stacey Bit Subs/Float Subs are manufactured to current Industry Standards/Certification requirements
specified by the Customer.

Installation Guide for Drill Pipe Float Valves
1. The first step is to determine the size of the Drill Pipe Float Valve (DPFV) to be installed according to the size and
type of connection they are being installed into. Charts are available to guide this selection.
2. Visually inspect the bore of the Float Sub or drilled out drill collar for shavings and/or foreign objects that could dam
age the seals of the DPFV. Clean out as necessary.
3. Lubricate the side seals of the DPFV using hydraulic oil (for installation purposes only, grade, brand, or viscosity is
not important) and insert into the bore of the float sub or the drilled out drill collar (rotating the DPFV slightly while
inserting will lessen the force required and the chances of damaging the side seals. Caution must be taken to en
sure that the DPFV is always installed with the top of the valve facing upwards in the string. (see figure: 1)
CAUTIONS
Figure 1:
Removal of Drill Pipe Float Valves
Model F valves
Model F (TOP) Puller is used for removing Model F Valves from the top of the sub. Just squeeze the forks together and
press against the head of the valve plunger. Once the forks are engaged with the cage the valve can be pulled. Disengage
by sliding the separator away from the valve and squeezing the forks together and the puller can be removed.
Model F (BOTTOM) Puller makes easy work of removing stuck or tight float valves from the sub or drill collar. Just engage
the special catch into the bottom of the float valve, rotate 90 degree’s and slide bumper into the stop and the float valve
is removed.
Note: When using the Model F (BOTTOM) Puller to remove the Model FC Valve, special care must be taken when
engaging the catch so that is does not make contact with the releasing key.
Model G Valves
The Model G Valve Puller is a dual purpose tool, aside from removing tight or stuck float valves from subs or drill collars,
it also assists in removing and installing the seal retaining ring.
The Model G Valve Puller is used in a similar fashion to the other pullers, by engaging the cage of the valve with the forks
and then quickly pulling the driver upward to remove the valve
