MAGNETIC FUEL CONDITIONER – A MODERN

TECHNIQUE IN AUTOMOBILE TO CONTROL

EMISSIONS & IMPROVING ENGINE PERFORMANCE
ABSTRACT:-

The rate of pollution is increasing day by day due to incomplete

combustion of charge in I.C. engine, so it is necessary to improve the method of

combustion and combustible fluid of I.C. engine, such that it will gives maximum

fuel economy, improving fuel efficiency and reducing polluting emissions, Gas

emissions from I.C. engine mainly consist of hydrocarbon (HC), carbon monoxide

(CO) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx). Unburned HC and NOx react with

atmosphere and form photochemical smog and causes eye and throat irritation,

bad odour, plant damage and decreased visibility. NOx is also toxic. CO impairs

blood capability to carry oxygen to the brain.

There are different methods used to minimize the rate of emission through

I.C. engine such as MPFI, EGR, PCV, catalytic converter etc. One new modern

technique to reduce the emission up to certain level is the use of MAGNETIC

FUEL.

This paper gives a method and apparatus for improving the combustible

fuel in I.C. engine/automobile, where the fuel employed is mostly liquid or

gaseous of hydro fuel, such as petrol, diesel etc.

The air and fuel are subjected to the line of forces from permanent

magnets, which are mounted on air and fuel inlet lines, Applying a magnetic field

to ionizing fuel to be fed to combustion chamber we can ensure more complete

combustion. The particles suspended in fuel are also ionized; mostly these
particles are additives such as detergent, resins and hyper-inflammable solutions

that improve the combustion of the base hydrocarbon.

These additives are ionized to prevent their precipitation on to delicate

components, such as spark plug electrode, fuel pipes, carburetor jets, injector

nozzles and combustion chamber.

Before magnetization the magnetic field of normal fuel molecules are is

disarry, after magnetization fuel particles are arranged in their correct order and

are especially in straight line with each other. The increasing negative ionization

on fuel molecules also causes the generation of greater attraction for positive

oxygen ions; as a result magnetized fuels are more active and have increased

kinetic activity.

By using such type of magnetic method we can increase the internal

energy of fuel to cause specific changes at molecular level, increasing the

internal energy to obtain easier and complete combustion. This fuel treatment

provides greater performance and mixing of fuel and air is quicker and more

uniform with in the combustion chamber, making the best use of fuel, improving

engine performance and greatly reducing exhaust emissions. Magnetization of

fuel and air in opposite polarities gives best results which dissolves carbon built

up in carburetor jets, fuel injector, spark plug electrode and in combustion

chamber which helps to keep engine part in clean and maintain in good

condition. The magnets used for this method are of high Curie temperature,

which should be provide with insulation layer, which are embedded in a body of

non-magnetic material.
The most importance of this type of method is that there is no need of

disconnection or modification of fuel or ignition system for producing magnetic

flux. And the cost required to adopt this system is very low near about Rs. 100-

120.
MAGNETIC FUEL CONDITIONER – A RECENT TREND IN

AUTOMOBILE TO CONTROL EMISSIONS AND

IMPROVING ENGINE PERFORMANCE.

ABSTRACT:-

To minimize the rate of emission through IC engine different types of

systems are adopted like MPFI, EGR, PCV, catalytic converter etc. One new

modern trend to reduce the emission level up to certain limit is the use of

Magnetic fuel. This system not only improves the combustible fuel which

improves the combustion but also clean the engine parts. Magnetic fuel is

nothing but the fuel which is magnetized with the help of permanent magnets

placed in the fuel and airlines. It gives good result through all the view like fuel

economy, fuel efficiency, complete combustion, very low emission, keeping the

combustion chamber and engine parts clean.

 INTRODUCTION:

Magnetic fuel and this method improves the combustion fuel in IC engine/

automobiles (2 stroke, 4 stroke) trucks ships and jets, where the fuel employed is

liquid or gaseous hydro fuels, such as petrol, diesel etc.

The air and fuel are subjected to the line of forces from permanent

magnets, which are mounted on air and fuel inlet lines. Applying a magnetic field

to ionizing fuel to combustion devices we can ensure more complete combustion.

The particles suspended in the fuel are also ionized; mostly these particles are

additives such as detergents, resins and hyper inflammable solutions that

improve the combustion of base hydrocarbon. Such are ionized to prevent their

precipitation on the delicate components such as the spark plug electrode, fuel

pipes, injector nozzles and the combustion chamber itself obtaining a

maximization of fuel economy, improving the fuel efficiency and reducing

polluting emissions.

 INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE:-

In IC engine the combustion of fuel in the presence of air takes place

inside the cylinder and products of combustion directly acts on piston to develop

the power. Most fuels for IC engine are liquid .The theoretically correct charge

would result in burning without leaving excess fuel. But is difficult to get such

mixture in actual practice when there is too little air, some of the fuel goes

unburned or simply charred to carbon. When there is too much air in a mixture, it

burns slowly and erratically and power is lost such liquid fuels do not combust till

they are vaporized and mixed with air regulated. Gas emission. From IC engine

is unburned HC, CO, NOx. Unburned HC and NOx react with atmosphere to form

photochemical smog. Smog is highly oxidizing in the environment and is the

prime cause of eye and throat irritation, bad odor, plant damage and decreased

visibility, NOx is also toxic. CO impairs blood capability to carry oxygen to the

brain, resulting in slower reaction times and impaired judgment.

 FUEL MAGNETISING:-

Atom: - The smallest particle of an element

Ionization: - It is the process of reorganizing the ionic composition by adding /

reducing ionic charges using magnetization.

• An atom that has an equal number of protons & electrons is neutral

charge.

• An atom that has a greater number of electrons than protons has a

negative charge.

• An atom that has a greater number of protons than electron has a

positive charge.

Generally, magnetization means the reorganization of chaotic magnetic

fields into order. Matter is made of molecules that in turn made of atoms. Each

atom comprises an inner, neutrally charged sphere called the nucleus or neutron

covered with an inner cloud of positively charged protons and surrounded with an

outer group of negatively charged electrons rotating in concentric orbits at

different levels. Each electron has two movements: one “spin” and other “orbital”

movement.

Each electron probably develops two magnetic fields. Before

magnetization the magnetic fields are of the normal fuel molecule are in disarray.

After magnetization fields are arranged in their correct order and are aligned
specially in straight line with each other. The increasing negative ionization on

the fuel molecules also causes the generation of greater attraction for positive

oxygen ions; as a result, magnetized fuels are more active and have increased

kinetic activity. This fuel treatment provides greater performance and the mixing

of fuel and air is quicker and more uniform within the combustion chamber,

making the best use of the fuel, improving engine performance and greatly

reducing exhaust emissions. Neutral atom with an equal number of positive and

negative charges magnetization electrons rotating in their orbits around the

negatively charged nucleus of the atom.

 MAGNETIC FUEL:-

Fuel mainly consist of hydrocarbons, when flowing through a magnetic

field, change their orientation of magnetization in a direction opposite to that of

the magnetic field. The molecules of hydrocarbon change their configuration. At

the same time intermolecular force is considerably reduced or depressed. This

mechanism is believed to help to disperse oil particles and to become finely

divided. In addition, hydrogen ions in fuel and oxygen ions in air or steam are

magnetized to form magnetic domain, which are believed to assist in atomizing

fuel into finer particles.

Generally, a gas or liquid fuel used for IC. Engine which is composed a set

of molecules. Each molecule includes a number of atoms, which is composed of

a nucleus and electrons orbiting around their nucleus. The molecules have

magnetic movements in themselves, and the orbiting electrons cause magnetic

phenomena. The positive and negative charges exist in the fuel’s molecules. For

this reason the fuel particles of positive and negative electric charges are not split

into more minute particles. Accordingly the fuels are not actively interlocked with

oxygen during combustion, there by causing incomplete combustion. To improve

the above, the fuels have been required to be decomposed and ionized. The

ionization of the fuel particles is accomplished by the supply of magnetic force

from magnet.

The resultant conditioned fuel / air mixture magnetized in opposite

polarities burns more completely, producing higher engine output, better fuel

economy, more power and most importantly reduces the amount of HC, CO and

NOx in the exhaust. Other benefit of these devices are, magnetically charged fuel
and air molecules with opposite polarities dissolve carbon built up in carburetor

jet fuel injector and combustion chamber help to clean up the engine and

maintain in the clean condition.

 INSTALLATION

The field strength of magnet depends upon the engine size. The

installation of this system in petrol or diesel is as shown in corresponding figures.

The ferrite magnets are the most cost effective for treating fuel. When

high energy Neodymium Iron Boron Magnets is applied we can obtain a

decrease in fuel mileage and unburned HC and CO.

In achieving a system, which operates effectively, it has been found that

magnet needs to be placed on both fuel inlet and air inlet. Magnetizing only

oxygen or fuel fails to achieve the best consumption efficiency. Also, it has been

found that the magnets need be particularly oriented to achieve optimum

efficiency. The magnetizing apparatus is located on the pipe between pumping

and the carburetor or fuel injector, but it is unnecessary for any other part to be

magnetized.

The advantage of present invention is attained only when the oxygen is

caused to be in North Pole, whether the fuel in South Pole i.e. both are in

opposite polarity for effective atomization.

The magnets are embedded in a body of non-magnetic material, such as

plastic, copper or aluminum to secure the fuel line. No cutting of fuel line and no

hose and clamps are necessary to install this device, outside a fuel line without

disconnection or modification of fuel or ignition system for producing magnetic

flux in the flow path of combustible fuel within the pipe. These units have been

5
installed without other fuel line or ignition adjustment to treat vehicles for

emission test.

One or more magnets are strapped to the fuel line as close as possible to

the carburetor or fuel injectors with only one pole of the magnet or magnets

adjacent to or in contact with the fuel line. One or more magnets are strapped to

the air intake in such a way as to magnetically expose the oxygen to the

magnetic field from the pole opposite that of pole used to expose the fuel. It is

believed that fuel (south) and oxygen (north) are oppositely polarized or ionized,

with the result that the fuel and oxygen exhibit a stronger attraction to each other

with the consequence that there is more efficient and complete bonding to each

other with during combustion process.

The magnets should have a curie temperature sufficiently high that they

retain their magnetic characteristics at the operating temperature to which they

are exposed. For example in automobile engine the fuel line magnet will be

above the engine block where relatively heating will greatly increase their

temperature. Some magnets lose much of their magnetic field strength as their

temperature rise. The curie temperature of Alnico magnet 7600 to 8900 C

Ceramic magnet (ferrite magnet) 4500 C on Neodymium 3100C to 3600 C and on

Samarium 7200 to 8250 C.

In order to protect magnets from effect of heat generated by engine, it will

be seen that magnet is provided with insulation, which would include a layer or

aluminum to block radiant energy a layer of thermal insulation (neoprene) to

prevent heating and radiation.

 ADVATAGES –

1) Effective and economical combustion.

2) 80% - 90% of reduction in HC emission.

3) 60- 80% of reduction CO emission.

4) 20 - 40% of reduction in NOx emission.

5) 10 - 30% of reduction in fuel consumption.

6) 10 - 30 % increased mileage.

7) Clean up the engine parts.

8) Very low cost near about RS. 100-120 /-.

7
 CONCLUSION :-

With a magnetic field we can increase the internal energy of the fuel to

cause specific changes at a molecular level increasing the internal energy to

obtain easier combustion. The molecules fly apart easier, join with oxygen easier

and ignite completely. ‘Ionization’ implies that the fuel acquire a ‘charge’ and

molecules of charge repel each other this makes fuel dispersal more efficient.

Then if you charge the air to the opposite polarity, then the fuel and oxygen

combine far quicker than normal mixture.

The resultant conditioned fuel /air mixture magnetized in opposite

polarities burn more completely, producing higher engine output, better fuel

economy more power and most importantly reduces the amount of HC, CO and

NOx in the exhaust and thus controls the emission effectively at low initial cost.

Other benefits of this device is that magnetically charged fuel and air molecules

with opposite polarities dissolve carbon build up in carburetor jets, fuel injector

and combustion chamber helps to clean up the engine and maintain in the clean

condition.

We recommend the use of ferrite magnet in the fuel inlet line. We think

that the use of magnet in airline has less effect than fuel lines .In future a

magnetized carburetor or a magnetized inlet nozzle for the fuel and air intake

may have a key role in enhancing the results.
