IPTeC INDIANA PHARMACY RESIDENT TEACHING CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Teaching Portfolio Midpoint Review

Jane Krause (Purdue)

Mentor:________________________________
Elizabeth Young, PharmD
Resident: _____________________________

Teaching Philosophy
The resident has developed a teaching philosophy that is clear, concise, and reflective. The resident has considered his or her
own personal approach to teaching and precepting.

Comments:
Elizabeth's teaching philosophy statement is reflective, thoughtful, and comprehensive. I noticed two typos
(someone's and conversation). I have attached some thoughts on creating a teaching philosophy statement as
this document can change and grow over time - in case you wish to modify/tweak.
Examples of Teaching
The resident has included teaching materials (handouts, cases, presentations) that reflect his or her teaching philosophy.
Slides for a lecture and a pre-lab exercise are included. I know more will be included as we are at the start of
Comments: the spring semester.

Feedback regarding Teaching

The resident includes feedback from lectures and presentations given from students, peers, and/or preceptors.
At this time, Elizabeth has feedback from the non-sterile compounding labs and summarized feedback from her
Comments: APPE students. The feedback from the APPE students is summarized perfectly - please continue in this format
with other courses and teaching experiences. Your APPE feedback is excellent, by the way - you should be very
proud.

Resident Reflection of Teaching

The resident has provided self-reflection following each lecture highlighting areas that he or she did exceptionally well during
the lecture, as well as opportunities for improvement. If a lecture or presentation was repeated, did the resident adequately
reflect what was done differently to make the lecture successful?
I suggest including thoughtful reflection on all teaching opportunities (what you did well, what you would change
Comments: for the future). A short reflection is included with the non-sterile compounding labs, but consider developing
more in terms of reflecting on how you taught the students one-on-one and why you did what you did. Is there
anything you would do differently in the future? Really show that you have thought about your teaching.
Consider titling this section "Teaching Experiences and Reflections".

Portfolio Organization
Is the portfolio organized in a clear and concise manner?

Comments: Your on-line portfolio is lovely and well organized. Your home page is beautiful. Outstanding!

Teaching Log
Is the teaching log updated by the resident as lectures or presentations are given? Does the resident appear to be on target
to complete the minimum requirements for IPTeC?
Elizabeth has a lot of teaching on her log and it is varied - which is great! I suggest recording 15 hours for each
Comments: week of the compounding labs you taught with me. The resident appears to be on target to complete the
minimum requirements for IPTeC.
