Problem Statement

A group of Grade 11 IT students have been given a task

to design a lite social website such as Face book or
Twitter. This program does not be needed to connect
via the internet as its purpose is to aid learners in
educating them, the concepts on how a social website
operates. This application will emulate a social website
and will be able to transfer valuable skills to learners. In
order to design a social website the following things will
need to be considered:

• Adding of user profiles

• Deleting of user profiles

• Password screens for security

• Pictures for profiles

• User profile information

• Current status

• Displaying a list of friends

Possible Solution

After completing my research with the help of

interviews and surveys I am able to design a suitable
application. The main features of the application are:
1. Add, Update or Remove User profiles
2. Display user profile
3. Display user’s personal information
4. Add, Update or Remove user’s status
 5. Search for other Users
6. Add pictures and passwords to user accounts

I shall design a database, in MS Access, that includes

over and above the usual personal details such as
name, surname etc. It would also have to include fields
relating to the information aspects of each member.
Using java, a program must be created that can add,
delete, insert and update profiles in the database. It
should also be able to update and remove profiles. The
lay out of the program should be simple with most
features accessible from one graphical user interface.
