Compare and contrast Essay

An estimated 20 to 50 percent of students enter college as “undecided” and an

estimated 75 percent of students change their major at least once before graduation. Like many

other seniors I was frustrated because I did not know what college I wanted to attend and what I

wanted to study. Luckily, I was required to do research on my top two colleges that I was

interested in for my senior artifact requirement. The two colleges I choose where Cal State

Dominguez Hills and Cerritos College. I researched the tuition, books, room and board,

transportation, logistics and demographics. This assignment is important to me because it

helped me become more informed and I was able to figure out my major which is Child

development and what they offer to help me pay for it.

At first I had no idea what tuition meant but then I did some research and it means how

much you will be paying yearly to be able to study in college .CSDH charges about $10,000 not

including supplies, living expenses, books and Cerritos College charges about $2,000 also not

including living expenses, supplies and books. They both have the major I want to study which is

Child development because I want to be able to become a social worker. The fees in total that I

would be paying at CSDH is about 18,000 yearly which include dental assistant university

fees, medical care, living expenses and insurance and for Cerritos College it will be about

$5,000 and it also includes plans for insurance, medical and dental also university fees. The

board and dorming at CSDH is 12,000 yearly but Cerritos College doesn't offer dorming so

living off campus is also about 12,000. For Fafsa I will receive about $2,000 and it is also a

great way of being able to pay for expenses and other material I will need like books,

transportation, and insurances you will need for college.

On the other hand, CSDH and Cerritos College are very good colleges but are very far away

from me. In this case I will have to be taking a bus to get there. CSDH is located Carson CA

(15.1 miles) , while Cerritos College is located in Norwalk, Ca (13.3 miles) CSDH has housing

and board for student because since it’s a big University which Cerritos College does not

because it’s a very small school so you’ll have to live off campus. There is many resource that

can help you in both schools like the library, front counter, books, teachers and even students. In

Dominguez Hills there is a safe campus that can only be achieved through your cooperation,

whether you are a student, faculty or staff member. There are several policies and phones on

campus to keep you safe. The Cerritos College Police Department is committed to ensuring a

safe environment for all students, employees and visitors to the college. There is also

administrators and police station on the corner of the school to keep the community safe.

California State University, Dominguez Hills ethnically-diverse universities in the United

States with a student population that is 54.5 percent Hispanic/ Latino; 17.7 percent

Black/African American, 12.9 percent White, 11.4 percent Asian or Pacific Islander, 0.3 percent

American Indian, and 3.2 percent two or more races. Immigrant and visa students on our

campus represent 100 countries. In Cerritos College there is 52% female,45.9% male and 1.9%

unknown. Cerritos College graduation is 19.4% and CSDH is 30.8%. In my opinion Cerritos

College has a good amount of graduation rate not just because it’s a community college but it is

also a good school. I think the best school for me would be Cerritos College also know as

community college because even though I am eligible for Cal States I’m going to have to

choose Cerritos because it’s financially cheaper and close to my house. Also because FAFSA

can help me out pay for most of my college.

In conclusion,CSDH is also a good choice but it is to expensive for me and far away from

me. This research helped me out because it helped me find out the pricing of the cost of the
university. It also helped me find out what could be better for me. It helped me solved questions

and thoughts I had about college. They both have good resources I can use to help me out with

my homework or if it just a simple question. Threw this research I have made many decisions

for my future school.

The SLOs that I used while doing this research was critical thinker because I didn't know

how to do a college plan .I researched on how to do a college plan. The college plan has many

things like tuition, fees, financial aid and transportation. I did two colleges which were Cerritos

College and CSUDH. Another way I was a critical thinker was by choosing the school that was

the best for me and I could be able to pay financially.
