Subject: Job Application Assignment

This memo serves as an introduction to my job application package. It discusses Evans General
Contractors, the organization I applied to, the job duties involved with the position, my self-
representation in the cover letter and resume, and my drafting and revision process for this
assignment.

Organization
Evans General Contractors is a construction company that provides comprehensive design/build and
general contracting services to a wide variety of public and private corporations, institutions, and
commercial developers. They have done projects like a BMW Automotive warehouse, office buildings
in Chastain Meadows, dollar tree warehouse in savannah, and much more.

Job Duties
The position I am applying for is an entry-level internship. Evans General Contractors offers a unique
internship program. The internship is a very hands-on experience that allows interns to shadow
assistant project managers and learn the entire project process. During the employment the intern will
work several different roles within the company in order to learn about everything about the
organization, and to see what position they would be the most efficient at.

Representation
In my cover letter and resume I attempted to represent myself as a hard worker who is very
trustworthy and accountable. I emphasized my current job as a security manager to show my
leadership skills, as well as my ability to work well with others.

Drafting and Revision

During my application process I did research on Evans General Contractors in order to get an
understanding of the position I am applying for. After the research I then used the information in my
cover letter and resume to show my high level of interest. I made a few changes to my resume to focus
on qualities that Evans General Contractors may be looking for. And finally, I wrote a cover letter that
shows my skills and qualities in a way that would benefit my application.

Dear Recipient Name:

I am writing to express my interest in obtaining an internship position with Evans General
Contractors.

I am attracted to this opportunity for several reasons. I am currently pursuing a bachelor’s

degree in construction management at Georgia Southern University, in Statesboro Georgia.
This position will allow me to use my experience and education in a way that benefits my
colleagues, as well as the organization. I have a proven track record of success in leadership
roles, most recently in my current job as a security manager. I achieved this management
position within my first year of employment by demonstrating my ability to learn quickly
and work diligently. This position highlights my effective leadership skills, by successfully
supervising a team of 10 employees. I have also proven my ability to resolve conflicts
promptly, and routinely, all while refusing to allow the extremely stressful conditions to
affect my decisions or productivity.

I am also drawn to this position because of the growth opportunities that Evans General
Contractors provides. The research that I’ve done on your company’s internship position
has shown me there are sufficient opportunities for highly motivated individuals like
myself. I am eager to apply my knowledge and skills in a position creates a very hands on
experience by allowing interns to shadow assistant project managers, and learn the entire
project process.
