ANTENNA HEIGHT AND PATH CALCULATION

1. LINK 3

Repeater 2 –(e1 ) = 31 m

Repeater 3 –(e2 ) = 42 m

Elevation of highest obstruction (eo ) = 34 m

Path length (D) = 33.47802605 km

Midband frequency (fmid ) = 8.1125 Ghz

Station 1 – highest obstruction (d1 ) = 12.95304684 km

Highest obstruction – Repeater 1 (d2 ) = 20.52497921 km

Allowable tree growth (atg) = 15 m

Equivalent earth radius factor (k) = 2/3

b. Highest Obstruction (𝐡𝟎 )

ho = eb + eo + Atg

ho = 31.27776672m + 34m + 15m

To get the antenna height of the respective stations and repeaters, we used the

triangular method of computation. In order to have a reliable path design, it must satisfy

the condition that(F = H/Hn ) ≥ 1. Assuming that F=1, so that H must be greater than or

equal to Hn to clear the obstruction. Therefore,

H = Hn

𝐇 = 𝟏𝟕. 𝟏𝟏𝟔𝟓𝟒𝟕𝟎𝟑𝐦

Since the highest obstruction is nearer in Repeater 3 , set the minimum antenna

height in Repeater 2.

Available Tower Antenna height18 m

Therefore the actual antenna height for Station1 is

a1 = 18m

To clear tree growth obstruction near the site:

h1 = a1 + e1

h1 = 31m + 18m

𝐡𝟏 = 𝟒𝟗𝐦

Vertical Clearance (𝐕𝐜 )

Vc = ho + Hn

Vc = 80.2777677m + 17.11654703m

𝐕𝐜 = 𝟗𝟕. 𝟑𝟗𝟒𝟑𝟏𝟑𝟕𝟑𝐦

Solving for h1

D d1

D ∗ (Vc − h1 )
h2 = + h1
d1

40.846km ∗ (97.3943173m − 49m)

h2 = + 49m
(12.95304684km)

h2 = 174.0783878m

Solving the antenna height for Repeater 1

a2 = h2 − e2

a2 = 174.0783878m − 42m

𝐚𝟐 = 𝟏𝟑𝟐. 𝟎𝟕𝟖𝟑𝟖𝟕𝟖𝐦

e. Actual Fresnel Clearance (H)

H = Vc − ho

h2 − h1
H = d1 ( ) + h1 − ho
D

(174.0783878m − 49)
H = (12.95304684km) ∗ + 49m − 80.2777667m
33.47802605km

𝐇 = 𝟏𝟕. 𝟏𝟏𝟔𝟓𝟓𝟎𝟔𝟐𝐦

f. Actual Fresnel Ratio (F)

n

F=
17.1165403m

𝐅=𝟏

Since the computed Fresnel ratio is 1, therefore it is acceptable.
