1. Call to Order at 3:00 p.m.


2. Sign In
- When members are signing in, check to see if they picked up their Krispy
Kreme boxes and if not then tell them to go to L204
3. Skittle Activity
a. Get into 4 groups of 6
b. Everyone will get a straw and a plate
c. You’ll have 30 seconds to get as many skittles onto your plate
d. The top 3 people in your group who have the most skittles on their plate advance
to the next round
e. Repeat steps 3 & 4
f. The top 8 people who have the most skittles on their plate advance to the next
round
g. Repeat steps 3 & 4
h. The top 3 people who have the most skittles on their plate win

9. Answering Questions About Business
a. Finance/Accounting
i. How does finance work?
- There are 3 sub categories in finance: public, corporate, and
personal
- Public Finance: Related to sovereign states and
sub-national entities (states/provinces, counties,
municipalities, etc.) and public entities (e.g. school
districts) or agencies
- Corporate Finance: Deals with the sources funding and the
capital structure​ of corporations, the actions that managers
take to increase the value of the firm to the shareholders,
and the tools and analysis used to allocate financial
resources
- Personal Finance: Involves paying for education, debt
obligations, financing ​durable goods​ such as r​ eal estate
and cars, buying ​insurance​ (health and property), and
investing and saving for ​retirement
ii. What is finance?
- The system that includes the circulation of money, the granting of
credit, the making of investments, and the provision of banking
facilities
iii. What’s the workload like for accounting?
- It depends on what position you hold and your client. Sometimes
you can be working for 8-12 hours. You have to be responsible
when it comes to your deadlines.
b. Marketing/Economics
i. What has been the most successful method of marketing?
- Depends if you’re selling to a consumer or to a business and what
time period you’re talking about but for 2018 it would be social
networking and viral marketing
- In the 21st century
ii. Since there are so many startup businesses using known marketing
tactics, what are some new, effective, and innovative marketing
techniques?
- Search engine marketing, retargeting
iii. What are some types of jobs you could get by studying economics?
- Personal financial advisor
- Actuary (predicts risk)
- Business journalist
- Contract specialist/Purchasing agents
- Contract specialist/Purchasing agent
10. Community Service
a. Honolulu AIDS Walk on Sunday, April 22nd
b. See Andrew Burgos for informational papers if you’d like to participate
c. 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
d. Bring a water bottle and sunscreen
e. Light refreshments will be provided
f. Wear comfortable shoes, volunteer shirts will be provided
g. The AIDS Walk is ​not​ a DECA Community Service Project but is encouraged by
us
- Couldn’t officially have it as a DECA community service project
11. Potluck Dismissal
a. Next meeting’s potluck will be provided by the club
b. Inactive members must sign up for clean up with Gwen in L204
- Someone can head down to L204 for potluck
