Objectives of the field visit:
1) To know the model of basic low
cost of toilet.
2) Make the new design of toilet
and in much more low cost.
3) To understand their basic water
filter design and work to make it
more efficient.

Methodology:

Main findings
About the toilet design.
1) Two types of toilet, flap seal and water seal.
2) Water seal is mainly used in cities due to availability of water about 15-20 litres
of water is used in single flush.
3) Here the main success model toilet is flap seal which is very water efficient
used only 1.5-2 litres of water for single flush.
4) Flap seal can be used in the areas where there is the scarcity.
5) This kind of toilet is low cost, the lowest construction prize is 17,000 Rs which
includes construction.
6) No foul smell.
7) No problem of mosquitoes as the all waste material is underground.
8) It have 2 pits on the backside of it, when one pit is full, the other pit can be
used.
9) Waste which is in the pit is used to make compost.
10) Pit is covered by 0.5-1 feet thick layer of soil.
11) When pit get full, ash and lime are added after that it is kept like that few days.
12) After this the compost is ready to transfer from the pit to the farms.
13) Earlier construction material was ferro-cements but due to less strength it was
replaced by bricks.
14) Less men are required for the construction.
15) Around 1 day is required to build the toilet if all the thongs are easily .
Limitation
1. Cost is bit too high.
2. Bricks should be replaced by other stronger and convenient low cost material.
3. More space is needed.
4. Cannot be used in city.
About water filter
1. Cost of one filter is around 600RS.
2. Materials required are plastic bucket having hole on both side, filter materials-
pebbles small and large, ash of rice husk etc.
3. It filter around 8-9 litre water in 4hrs.
4. The filter material is required to change after 1year and cost is required around
100rs.
5. Almost 99% bacteria can be killed by this filter.
Limitation
1. Less efficiency.
2. High cost compared to other design.
