Course Descriptions:
This course aims at teaching the students to use two of the most prevalent operating systems
nowadays, which are Windows and Linux operating systems. Together with the OS, this course
also teaches the students to use common software that comes with the OS. For Windows, the
course covers the Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet Explorer). For
Linux, this course covers a number of basic Unix tools and also GNU software. This course also
tries to introduce the concept of open source software and promote the use of open source
software as opposed to software piracy. Finally, this course teaches the students to build simple
web pages, using both the HTML scripting and web page development tools.

Objectives of the Course:


The course aims to:
1. Teach students on writing HTML pages.
2. Teach students on the use of two of the most prevalent operating systems.
3. Provide understanding on performing basic administration under Windows and Linux.
4. Teach students the use of common software that comes with the Operating Systems.
5. Introduce and provide understanding on image and editing tool(s).
Outcomes of the Course:

At the end of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Use Windows and Linux operating systems.


2. Perform basic administration under Windows and Linux.
3. Use the software provided with Microsoft Office Suite (basic to intermediate level
skills).
4. Use image and editing tool(s).
5. Write their HTML pages.

Assessment:
 Lab assignment/test: 15%
 Quizzes and assignments: 15%
 Mid Term Exam 20%
 Conducted in Week 9
 Final Exam 50%
Total 100%

Class Policies:
1. Late submissions of assignments will not be accepted without valid reason.
2. Missing lectures due to
 sickness : MC is required
 emergency : letter of guardian is required
3. The lecturer reserves the right to give pop-quizzes whenever deemed appropriate.
Latecomers will not get extended time.
4. Cheating and any attempt thereto will not be tolerated and penalized according to the
seriousness of the offense.
