CAMP
265

Commander’s Report
The months of May and June have our two largest
events of the year. We will set up our Turkey Shoot Booth at
the Trail of Honor this year on Friday, May 18th and will
work it Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 8:00am –
5:00pm. Tear down is on Monday. We need help with this
event so please carve out some time from busy schedule. I
assure you, you won’t regret it! We have Mrs. Stephanie
Rolph, PhD speaking to us this month. She is a Professor in
the History Department at Millsaps College and should be
very enlightening. We have a good speaker lined up, good
food, good fellowship, new members to welcome in and
many other items to discuss. So come early, bring someone
with you, and as sure as our camp needs you more than you
need it, I’ll probably see you at our next meeting at the Bass
Pro Shop on May 5th, 2018. OCR meeting starts at 5pm.
The buffet starts at 5:45 and runs through 6:30pm so
remember to bring $13.50 cash for it. As always, our SCV
meeting starts at 7pm sharp. – Tim Cupit

April was super busy with Confederate Memorial Services, and we

attended every one we could possibly make. It was so wonderful to
see our Black Rose Society ladies all dressed out to honor their
ancestors and those men who fought so bravely. We thoroughly CAMP

April 7th. Even though it was super cold and raining, we were able to
lay a wreath and enjoyed a great meal afterwards. At the Raymond
Memorial Service we had the pleasure of welcoming a
photojournalist who took some photos of the ladies and conducted an
interview on why we honor our ancestors in this fashion. Hopefully
the interview will bear some positive fruit for our organization. We
also attended Pittsboro Memorial Service with the ladies of the JA
Orr Chapter #22 OCR and the Margery B Rogers Clark OCR Chapter
#17, and it was an awesome service!

We are planning in the near future to reward some of our local history
teachers with some goodies for teacher appreciation week, so be
watching our page for more on that!

POEM FOR CONFEDERATE MEMORIAL DAY

How many springs have gone since they

who wore the uniform of gray
last looked upon summer snow
of dogwood, blooming below
their southern skies and friendly sun,

or knew when spring wind's gentle hand

2018 Civil War Relic Show Update – June 16th & 17th
As of April 11th, 2018 we have sold 205 tables for our Relic Show! Tim Cupit traveled to Corinth, MS on April 8th to solicit vendors for our show. We
have finished designing our ad for the newspapers, and completed the flier that we will pass out & mail to 120,000 people. We are now working on our
radio ads for the show, We sent out our final mail-out to over 500 potentials vendors, and are continuing to work on our radio ads for the show. We
secured our food vendor for the show. He sets up outside & has great food.

We need to find people willing to do a LIVING HISTORY at our Relic Show. Please keep that in mind and spread the word! Chuck Gray has secured
the Magnolia Rifles, a youth reenacting group, to set up at the show.

We received a $300.00 donation in January but we still need help raising money by selling ads in our newsletter or soliciting donations. Any help with
this endeavor would be greatly appreciated by all of us at Camp 265. Remember, it costs about $20,000 to put on our Relic Show! We have sponsor
sheets to use when selling ads with photos of activities our camp has done in the community, an explanation of how their donation will be used, and
information for them regarding a tax write off.

Remember: if you ask, you may be told no, but if you never ask- you’ll never be told yes!

We need the most help on Friday morning with set-up from 9am-1pm, Friday afternoon from 1pm-5pm to help vendors set up their booths, and on
Sunday afternoon with tear down at 4pm. Lunch will be provided on Friday for the vendors and those helping with set-up.

Please make plans to attend the 2018 Civil War Relic Show and help us make it a success!

The ladies of the Mary Ann Forrest Chapter of the Order of Confederate Rose, and members from Camp 265 attended
the 3rd Brigade Memorial Service at the Confederate cemetery in Raymond, Mississippi on Saturday, April 21, 2018.
