Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The PowerPoint can be engaging for all students as they try to guess what the weather pattern is. The PowerPoint can be read for students who would prefer to read or if they cannot be hear well or the PowerPoint can be listened to. The PowerPoint can easily be accessed at home for students who may need more practice.
Lesson idea implementation: The teacher will address the topic of weather patterns with the class. There will be a brief class discussion on what the class already knows about weather patterns and what the class would like to know about weather patterns. The teacher will then go through the power point and the class will have to guess the weather pattern before the correct answer is revealed to them. The teacher will assess the class based on their participation, engagement, and overall correct answers. The PowerPoint can be used at home for extra practice or review, and the power point can be read or listened to, depending what the student needs.
Having the class create a weather project in groups can extend the learning. They can each be assigned a weather pattern and be responsible for creating some kind of visual that represents the weather pattern. Their projects can be shared with the whole class. Feedback will be given to each group on their project. Adding each group’s weather pattern to the original PowerPoint presentation and reviewing it one last time as a class can conclude the lesson.
Reflective Practice: This lesson would impact student learning by allowing them to go at their own pace when viewing this PowerPoint individually. They can take their time and really get to know the content material. Having students create a project on weather patterns and adding to the PowerPoint is a way for students to further extend the lesson.
