Lesson Schedule
Targeted teacher questions to promote HOTS
- What do you think do is covered her? How does mirror is related to our lesson? Who can
tell me what is the double of 1, 2, 3, 4…? What is the double of one Choco bar? What are
the things you would like to double if you can?
Student communication and use of math language:
The double of 1 is two, 5 is ten. Double 2 is 2+2=4. Mirror can copy or double things. I would
like to double…
Engage (warm up, review prior knowledge):
On the carpet
Engaging
1- I will start by showing the students a covered mirror, I will ask them
what they think about it? What is it? I will write their answers on the 3 min
board.
2- I will show them the mirror and I ask them how does this mirror is
related to our math lesson? (discuss their answers) 2 min
3- Then I will ask one of the students to come and stand in front of the
mirror, I will ask them how many "Ahad" do we have? (Two), I will put
a pen in front of the mirror, I will ask them again how many pens do 2 min
we have? Now, what does the mirror do to things? What does it do?
(copy things or double them).
Core (introduce and practice new concepts & procedures):
On the carpet
Doubling
4- I will tell the students that the mirror helps us to copy or double
things, and that what we are going to do today. We will double things 5 min
and numbers. (write the L.O on the board).
5- So, if I have one chocolate bar (show them picture), and I want to
double it, how many Choco bars I will have? (2), so I have one Choco
bar (put a picture on the board), I add another one (put a picture on 4 min
the board), so they become 2 (pictures). After that, I will write
(1+1=2) so if we double one we get 2.
6- I will show the students 2 Choco bars, I will ask them if I want to
double them, how many Choco bar I will have? (I will ask one of the 4 min
students to do it on the board by adding pictures and writing numbers
2+2=4).
7- We will do the same with 3 Choco bars on the board.
8- Then, I will show them 4 pencils, I will ask them what is double 4? (I 4 min
will ask a students to go and look for the answer)
Close (wrap up, discussion, brief review activity or assessment):
On their tables
Assessment (worksheets)
1- To conclude with and check the students understanding I will give
them the doubling worksheets for each level. But, before that, I will 10 min
show them the "ladybugs" worksheet. I will tell them that if thy finish
the worksheet that I will give them after a while, they must do it by
drawing points according to the question. If it says double 2 they must
draw 4 points and so on.
2- I will start by explaining the "high" level worksheet, I will show it to
them and send them to their tables. Then I will show the middle level
their worksheet, I will send them to their tables and ask the teacher
assistant to help them. finally, I will explain the law level worksheet to
them, I help them in doing it. I will try to move and check the
students' work in the other tables too.
