The Holocaust: History on Canvas

This project will focus on your knowledge and analysis of the Holocaust. You will experience this
historical period through film, literature, a museum visit (next week), and an in-depth study covered
in your Global Perspectives classes.

For this project, you will be locating and studying artwork created by Holocaust survivors and
those prisoners who perished in the camps. These paintings and sketches document the suffering
and anguish expressed and experienced by the prisoners and survivors.

You will select one painting, sculpture, or sketch; web sites will be provided. Once you have made
your selection, you will write a free verse poem to complement each work of art. Make sure to
research the artist and study his/her biography. Learning the artist’s story will benefit your poetry
writing.

Here are a few web sites to consider:

http://fcit.usf.edu/holocaust/resource/gallery/olere.htm

Your free verse poem must include:

● Imagery
● Symbolism
● Poetic Devices
● Descriptive language

Multimedia options:

You may use a poster generator app to display your selected art piece and poem or you may use a
poster board to display your project. It must be neatly designed and uploaded onto your Weebly.
