When in Rome pay as the Romans pay!
When you are in France you pay with francs. When you are in the USA
you pay with dollars and when you are in Japan you pay with Yen.
When you are on the world wide web, you should be able to pay in a
currency which is unique to the world wide web, which is the currency
of that unique place. It would be silly to pay in dollars if you are web-
bing from Germany or China; this is why it is essential that DAU exists.
DAU is the currency of the internet.
What exactly is DAU?
DAU is Ecash backed by gold bullion. DAU is acceptable all over the
world, as gold is acceptable all over the world. This is the only sensible
currency for the newly emerging economy of the world wide web; based
on the very thing that originally spawned paper money. DAU is curren-
cy without nationality. It is a currency for the whole world, and it will
become the top level currency of the internet.
DAU is a return to real money. Each unit of DAU is backed by one
800th of an ounce of gold bullion, held in a bank vault.
What does ‘DAU’ stand for?
D.
DAU stands for Digital Gold. It is the combination of the letter ‘D’ for Digital and the periodic
table name for the element Gold: ‘AU’. It is Ecash denominated in units that are divisions of gold
bullion bars.
Why denominate in Gold?
Gold has from the beginning of civilization held a singular, almost mystic,
fascination for mankind. Its enduring value is undiminished even in the mod-
ern world’s highly complex and largely paperless global financial markets. It is
to gold that people turn in times of political and economic uncertainty - a safe
haven that provides a portable store of value, the classic insurance hedge
against inflation and turmoil. It is the ‘ultimate asset’ which, while acceptable
as a medium to buy goods and services anywhere in the world, is not, at the
same time, any other party’s liability.
What will DAU be used for?
DAU will be held by Gold investors, in the same way that paper bullion
instruments are held. It will be used as Digital cash on the world wide web
for a wide variety of transactions. It will be traded, bought and sold. It has
the potential of becoming the default system by which gold is traded
throughout the world. There will be many other uses to which DAU will
be put, but for all intents and purposes, it will behave as cash with all the
benefits of cash, but exchangeable at a distance, world wide.

What standard of gold will be used?
DAU will be denominated in gold conforming to the Good Delivery Bar standard con-
forming to the specification of the internationally recognized London Bullion Market
Association (LBMA). Each bar has a minimum gold content of either 350 or 450 fine
ounces, with a minimum purity of 995 parts per 1000 fine gold.
Where will the DAU gold stock be held?
The DAU gold stock will be held in secure vaults, either in a European bank or in
an allocated account administered by the LBMA. All of the gold circulated by
DAU International is held frozen on behalf of the DAU users, and cannot be used
in further financial dealings.
Can users convert DAU back into cash?
Yes. DAU users can exchange into their local currency via our secure web interface.
There will be a small exchange charge. Also, users can exchange DAU for physical gold
at participating banks.
How will users open DAU accounts?
Users will web to the DAU WWW site, fill in a short on-line form, and
download the Ecash Software. No paper forms to fill in. No intimidating
and restrictive bureaucracy. You can be up and running with DAU in 15
minutes, receiving payments in DAU on the same day that you open your
account. When you need to convert your local currency into DAU you
simply make a money transfer to DAU HQ via the transfer service of your
choice, and DAU will credit your account with DAU automatically.
How will merchants open DAU accounts?
Merchants will open accounts in the same way that users will, though the soft-
ware that they will receive will be different. Merchants will receive an automat-
ically installing ‘DAU Shop’ which they can integrate into their websites quick-
ly and easily. This fully featured software will make order handling and admin-
istration transparent.
What will the cost be?
The account charges are 25DAU quarterly and 10USD (or equivalent) account
setup fee. This one time setup fee is payable upon your first conversion of your
local currency into DAU. These fees along with the fees associated with the
exchanging of local currencies into and out of DAU are our source of income.

DAU sounds a little like DOW doesnt it?

This document is an outline, and DAU is the concept codename. When
the actual product is launched onto the WWW, it will go under the name
of ‘World Money’, the logo for which is at the right. Ecash is easy to use,
it is private, secure, and can be denominated in extremely small units,
making it perfect for buying and selling information/goods on a massive

Brokers
In order to make exchanging local cash for WM as easy as possible, we will
be offering businesses such as travel agencies WM brokerages. Ideally, we
will have a minimum of one WM broker in each capital city of the world,
where cash can be converted in a matter of minutes just as people use
bureau de change kiosks all over the world to exchange one currency for
another. Travel agencies are well suited to this task; they are already com-
puter literate and are able to handle many payment forms (cash, credit
card and cheque). WM brokers will charge a small commission for this
exchange service, and they will be given discounts on buying WM if they
purchase ‘in bulk’, to increase their profitability.

The Future
Advertising
Ecash is a two way system; payments can be incoming or outgoing. Advertisers could use WM to attract web users
to a site that is under promotion. Imagine a website that pays you to browse it! The opportunities for advertising
and sponsoring are limitless, and it is through these types of promotion that the installed base of WM users will
grow dramatically.

Metered web applications

Imagine a copy of Adobe Photoshop (the next version of which will have TCP/IP built in) that can charge your
WM account for the use of plugins while you are on-line. Every time you use a WM chargeable plugin, your account
is automatically debited. When you run the application without the TCP/IP active, the plugins are simply dis-
abled. The possibilities for software that is charged for on a per usage basis are limitless.

News
Imagine a WM plugin for Netscape Navigator that can seamlessly charge your account for news, entry into web-
sites... anything! And because Ecash can be denominated in very small amounts it will finally become practical to
charge 1/100th of a cent for a newsarticle, transparently and in complete privacy.

Plans
World Money will be just that; money that can be spent and recieved from all over the world. Our online appli-
cation form will contain three lines only. There must be no impediment to getting the WM software and to becom-
ing a user of WM. It must be as easy to download and use as Netscape Navigator is, on both the merchant side and
the single user side. Our aim is to have an installed user base that numbers in the millions. With account charges
kept to a very low level, and no charges levied until you start using your account, this should be achievable.
