Hydraulics 2012-FALL
(HYDROELECTRIC POWER)

PROMLEM 1

A hydroelectric power plant will be constructed. The power of turbine is 90000 kW and the gross hydraulic
head is 100 m. The length and diameter of penstock are 400 m and 5m, respectively. The efficiencies of the
generator and turbine are eg = 0,90 and et= 0,85 respectively. Take γ = 1,0 tf/m3, Hazen coefficient is
C= 100. Determine;
a) the discharge through the penstock.
b) the mean annual energy production.

SOLUTION 1
