[Calculus for Business]

Mathayom [6]
EIP Mathayom Course Outline
Second Semester 2018/19

Subject: Calculus for Business Department: Mathematics

Grade: Mathayom 6 Course Code: MA33222
Periods: 4 Credit: 2

Course Description:
This course will complete its introduction to differential calculus and introduce
antiderivatives.
Once students have been introduced to differentiation of polynomials and some
transcendental functions they will then get a chance to apply these techniques to practical
problems in business such as optimizing revenue, cost and profit. They will also use
these techniques to solve problems of related rates both in the business and physical
world. Students will be expected to complete a project on related rates as part of their
course.

In the final quarter students will take a brief look at antiderivatives and integration and
use these skills to solve some business problems related to marginal analysis.

Course Objectives:
1. To acquire a foundation of mathematical rigor.
2. To develop skill using the mathematical tools of probability and statistics to analyze
problems involving uncertain outcomes.
3. To develop skill using the mathematical tools of algebra and trigonometry to solve
problems involving periodic motion, paths in space, vectors and complex numbers.
4. To develop analytical and critical thinking skills through investigative work.
5. To use technological tools to solve mathematical problems.
6. To practice applying mathematical reasoning to problems encountered in science,
engineering and other disciplines.
