Framework for IITCOE FPM Fellowships, 2010

The FPM Chair invites applications for IIMA IDEA Telecom Centre of Excellence (IITCOE
fellowships) that have been instituted by IITCOE at IIMA. The application in the form of a
research proposal in the telecom/rel ated sector and CV of the applicant has to be submitted to the
IITCOE by the FPM office. Details on the IITCOE fellowship are given below.

Eligibility Open to doctoral students at IIMA from any area
and who meet all of the following requirements:

a) have secured a GPA of at least 2.55 in first

year of the program (as well as in second year
in case of students who have passed the second
year);
b) have developed a proposal for working in
telecom or on a topic related to the telecom
sector. The submitted proposal for award will
become the focal point for further research
leading to the thesis of the doctoral candidate.
Duration of Fellowship a) Maximum of 2.5 years from the beginning of
3rd year.
b) The fellowship will be awarded retroacti vely
from July of the academic year in which the
proposal is submitted.

Contingency Yes Rs 30,000 per annum for 2.5 years (will be indexed
- to the general FPM Contingency grant) paid by
IITCOE.

Stipend

IIMA IITCOE
Additional Yes Rs 4,000 pm. The normal stipend will be paid by the
Stipend - Institute. This is a top up amount. This will be
payable from the third year onwards
(retrospectively), and then onwards based on
meeting the FPM requirements.
Additional - Yes Rs 80,000 per annum (for attending telecom related
Travel summer/winter school/conferences where the
Funding candidate is presenting a paper or has a prior
approval from the TAC Chair for attending a
summer/winter school). Such funding is available
only after completion of second year and for
maximum of 2.5 years from then onwards. This is
applicable for both domestic and international travel.
Any unspent travel amount may be carried over to
the next year up to a maximum of 25% of the
previous year. The norms for travel, stay etc will be
as per the FPM norms.
Selection Process a) Award will be made on the basis of the
application and an interview. There would be
representation of the IITCOE, EC in the panel
evaluating applications.
b) The application package sha ll consist of a CV
and a proposal of research that the candidate
will pursue for her/his doctoral thesis. This
should be signed by the TAC Chair. The
proposal shall not exceed 6 pages (in 1.5 spacing
and in Times Roman font 11 point) including
bibliography which shall not exceed one page.
Conditions The following conditions apply:
The annual renewal of fellowship will be contingent
on satisfactory academic progress. Poor
academic performance and delays in meeting the
planned thesis targets could lead to withdrawal
of the top up amount of the fellowship. This
 would hold despite any other action that the FPM
Chair may take regarding continuation of the
usual FPM fellowship.
The fellowship amount given as a part of the
IITCOE Fellowship will be recovered from the
student if he/she accepts the award and later
decides to not work in the area specified by the
fellowship.
Administration The IITCOE EC will decide on the framework for
administration as well as selection of candidates for
the fellowship. However, these will be administered
by the FPM office
