1. INTRODUCTION
This design report pretends to explain the structure calculation for the installation of photovoltaic panels
(PV modules) to install 8.0 MWp in Guinee.
2. DATA
2.1. GEOMETRY
The structure is composed by one photovoltaic table with an inclination of 15º supported on 12 columns
embedded at the soil/fixed on a concrete foundation. The lower edge of the panel is 1.5m and the
higher 2.3m above de soil. The total number of panels installed in each structure is 21, arranged in 3
rows and 7 columns in landscape orientation. The dimensions of each panel are 1976x990X40mm.
It will be formed by bended and angles steel sections connected by bolts and steel plates.
If the piles will be buried in the ground they need to be nailed directly in the field without moving the
ground. The buried length should be according the design drawings and validated with tests on the
field.
For structural design it was considered that there is no obstruction of the wind flow under the table.
2.2. DESCRIPTION
All the structure will be made in steel class S275 and S355. The panels will be fixed to the secondary
beams by clamps. The remaining connections are materialized by bolts and steel plates.

3. CALCULATIONS RESOURCES
3.1. ACTIONS
The actions are defined by the Eurocode 1 (EN 1991-1-4 and EN 1991-1-3):
Wind loading is derived from the reference wind velocity throughout the formulas and rules given in EN
1991-1-4/NA – Actions on structures – Wind Actions. Reference wind velocity is defined as the mean
wind velocity at 10m level above the ground to an annual probability of 0,02 (50 years). The
reference wind speed considered is 37.2 m/s. The terrain category assumed was II. The reference wind
speed corresponds to Vb,0=24m/s. This type of structures have an design working life corresponding to
25 years, so the reference wind speed may be affected by a probability factor of 0.96 which reduces
the reference wind speed to 35.7 m/s. This result at a gust wind speed of 160 km/h. The gust velocity
pressure, qb is 1.234kN/m² (considering the density of the air is 1.25 kg/m³).
It was considered the wind loads on structure and equipment. All the actions were assumed
simultaneously and acting in the most unfavorable direction.

The design verification consists in comparing the stress due to the forces combined with the proper
partial factors with the design resistant stress of the materials.
The maximum reactions of each pile are presented in the following table:
The service limit states were considered for the quasi-permanent combination and frequent combination,
which the respective beams vertical deformations were limited to L/200.
Stability verification, forces and displacements determination were calculated with an integrated
graphic program for modeling the Ultimate Limit State.

The characteristic values of the Yield strength and Failure strength are:
• The steel profiles and plates will be cut by mechanical and/or heat process. The holes will be
drilled or punched. Bending or rolling will forms parts, joined by bolts.
• The bolts to be used in the principal connections will be in a minimum class of 6.8.
