1. Prepare the necessary equipment.
2. Tell the woman what is going to be done.
3. Use antiseptic hand rub or wash hands thoroughly with soup and water
4. Put on sterile surgical gloves on both hands.
5. Clean the perineum with antiseptic solution
6. Fill the syringe with 10 ml of lidocaine.
7. Insert the whole length of the needle beneath the vaginal mucosa and
beneath the skin of the perineum.
8. Aspirate by drawing the plunger back slightly to make certain the
needle I not penetrating a blood vessel.
9. Suture the perineal skin using the following:
a) Continuous suture
b) Interlocking suture
c) Simple interrupted
d) Subcuticular suture
10. Wash perineal area
11. Clean away all soiled linen
12. Make the woman comfortable
13. Maintain privacy and modesty.
