Topic- Are African Americans viewed negatively in the public eye?

Detrow, Scott. “Trump Says African-American Communities In 'Worst Shape' Ever; Data

Disagree.” NPR, NPR, 21 Sept. 2016,

www.npr.org/2016/09/21/494883725/trump-says-african-americans-are-in-their-worst-

shape-ever-the-data-disagrees.

Our president is the leader of our country, and he is no leader! For a president to

be so rude, and say such foul things is disappointing. I believe a president should not talk

bad or disrespect any race or there community.

This article shows how even a “leader” can downplay or talk bad about a race and

its community. Our president is supposed to be a positive reinforcer, but not a negative

representation of the country.

Donaldson, Leigh. “When the Media Misrepresents Black Men, the Effects Are Felt in the

Real World | Leigh Donaldson.” The Guardian, Guardian News and Media, 12 Aug.

2015,

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/aug/12/media-misrepresents-black-men-effe

cts-felt-real-world.
This article displays the truth behind black men in the real world. Many

interpretations about black men are false and inaccurate, but this article provides the

truth. I personally like the truth and the honesty displayed in this article. Many article I

searched for previously was against the idea of a black man becoming successful, but this

article displayed the true idea of a black man. The picture of a black man isn't a king, but

its a criminal.

This article will provide the true insight of a successful black man. A black man is

seen as a criminal, but not as a millionaire. This article is an eyeopener for many people

in the society. Typing this paper will give more insight knowing what our purpose is, and

who we are as African Americans. I hope my paper opens a lot of eyes on the topic of

African Americans and who we are and how important our contribution is.

Edwards, Breanna. “Study Confirms What We Already Know: When It Comes to Social

Media, Mobile Tech Black Millennials Rule.” The Root, Www.theroot.com, 17 Oct.

As we know social media is the heart of the 21st century, and African Americans are

the kings and queens of social media. I believe that social media is the base of of the

world. Anything and everything is found on social media because of its high platform.

For a person to write an article, and say something so positive about African Americans

is rare. I will use this article to glorify the greatness in African Americans.
Elkouby, Sebastien. “The Criminalization of Black People – A Billion Dollar Industry.”Rap

Rehab, 27 Dec. 2015, raprehab.com/criminalization-black-people-billion-dollar-industry/.

In “The Criminalization of black people, A billion dollar industry” it gives readers an

understanding of how successful a African American can be. Most people believe that

African Americans are not capable of being successful in any profession that they do. In

this case that is wrong, as African Americans we make a conscious decision to make sure

failure is not an option! In the article one amazing sentence stood out, and the sentence

said, “ At the end of the day, no matter how many protests, movements, boycotts, and

public outrage denouncing the music industry’s depiction of Black people have occurred

in the past 2 decades, none of them have made a significant impact.” This one sentence

from the article made everything come together, and it also made people understand the

steps to success African Americans take.

The second out of three references is an article that explains how successful African

Americans are in the world. This article is an eye opener that tells the truth about the

success and the time it takes to be successful. Not only does the article talk about “the

struggle” of being a black male or female in this world, but it also talks about the

limitless possibilities. This article will give an incredible insight on how we helped

revolutionize the world for the better.

Elkouby, Sebastien. “Is Hip Hop Destroying Black America?” Rap Rehab, 27 May 2016,

raprehab.com/is-hip-hop-destroying-black-america/.

Everyone knows that hip hop is considered to be a problem in America today. Yes, hip

hop is loud and explicit, but it also tells a story. Some hip hop tells a story about a

struggle and the truth about the hardships about people. The author of the article said

several things about the negative attributes of hip hop music and the rap culture, but one

thing stood out. When the author said,” . Hip Hop is a movement consisting of 4 main

artistic elements: DJ’ing, Rapping, Breaking and Graffiti. But at its core, it is a

philosophy based on the idea that self expression is an integral part of the pursuit of

peace, love and unity.” Those two sentences from the article bring the idea of honesty

into the essay I am about to write.

In the last and final reference it helps us (the readers) understand if African Americans

are viewed negatively in the public eye. The article is related to my topic and helpful

towards my paper. Sentences in the article will help me prove my topic to be false, but it

will take time to read and analyze the information I am given. Every resource I have

listed will help me make my paper amazing!

Gates, Henry Louis. “Black America and the Class Divide.” The New York Times, The

New York Times, 1 Feb. 2016,

www.nytimes.com/2016/02/07/education/edlife/black-america-and-the-class-divi

de.html.

This amazing article tells us, the readers, the truth about our race divide. Not only

does the article provide us with facts, but it helps explain the problem we are having in

this world. This article speaks volumes as to why African Americans are singled out.

Jamison, Shantell E. “Growing up with Depression in the African-American

Community.”EBONY, EBONY, 25 Nov. 2017,

www.ebony.com/wellness-empowerment/growing-depression-african-american-c

ommunity.

This article sparks interest when researching “How an African American is

viewed in the public eye?”, because people don't think of depression. An actual

psychologist typed this article after doing research in African American communities. I

find this article to be quite strange, and oddly enough factual.

Not only does this article confuse me, but it helps me and paper get a better

understanding of others opinions. Opinions and facts that will make my paper more

credible.
Jordan, Karen. “An Act of Hate Toward an African American Family in Manhattan Beach

Brings History Full Circle.” Los Angeles Magazine, 27 June 2017,

www.lamag.com/mag-features/clinton-fire-manhattan-beach/.

This article displays the true feelings towards an African American Community. Not only

is the african community taken for as a mess, but now it's considered to be hated by

many. In my eyes, I feel as if The African Community should be treasured for its value.

This article is a true representation of what a person thinks of the African American

community. People have to make conscious decisions when talking on such a topic.

Law , Victoria. “35 Years of Demonization: The Criminalization of Black Women.” Political

Research Associates, 2 Feb. 2016,

www.politicalresearch.org/2016/02/02/35-years-of-demonization-the-criminalization-of-

black-women/#sthash.jkWPG99p.dpbs.

In this article I learned a lot about how African American women are treated in

the public eye. Not only are African American women treated horribly in society, but in

the media circuit. Women are being imprisoned for crimes they did not commit and

speaking their mind. As the world progress and social media becomes key, a lot of people

are starting to understand the truth behind women in the world! Not only the truth, but the

precautions that are taken to be successful.

This article is very important to ,my paper because it dispayles the truth behind

the broken African American society. It also displays example and statics which will help
my paper become factual. The things in the article are also an eye opener for me and the

person who will be reading my paper. I am ready for this article to display positive

impact on my paper.

Luckie, Mark S. “How Black People Built Social Media.” The Huffington Post,

Many people don't understand how important the media outlet is in the 21st

century. Media is to be considered as the highest platform of the news circuit, and

African Americans are running the show!actually African Americans built the social

media outlet!

This article is important because it shows how much of a positive contribution

African Americans have contributed to the world. Sine social media is a high platform in

the 21st century, this article really shows how important African Americans are.
Savali, Kirsten West. “Throw Away the Script: How Media Bias Is Killing Black

America.” The Root, Www.theroot.com, 2 June 2015,

www.theroot.com/throw-away-the-script-how-media-bias-is-killing-black-179086002

The use of media is an important topic. Media is not only hard to work with, but it

is also a“killing substance”. Media is killing a lot of young souls, which is starting to

destroy many communities. The media injustice is very important to the community

because it is ruining the community.the media circuit has many consequences that many

people seem to be dealing with.

This article shows the criminalization behind the mass media circuit. This article

will help me show the truth behind the media. Not many people understand the problems

media has, but at the same time it has its positive sides, this article will tell the truth

behind media injustice.

Smith, Ph.D. Darron T. “Images of Black Males in Popular Media.” The Huffington Post,

TheHuffingtonPost.com, 14 May 2013,

www.huffingtonpost.com/darron-t-smith-phd/black-men-media_b_2844990.html.

In “Images of Black Males in Popular Media” we understand the true image of Black

male and the world that misguides them. As people know the stereotypical image of a

black man is an athlete, absentee father, drug-dealing criminal, and gangster thug. In this

case an image of a black man is depicted to be a business owner, a congressman, an

engineer, and even the president! In the article it states an important line that provided for

hope the black man. The line states,“Capturing our imagination as a society, film

exemplifies how media images provide us with a manufactured reality of

misrepresentations that guides societal perceptions of black men, whether real or

imagined”. Reading this article brings happiness in my heart knowing that every black

man isn’t depicted as a criminal or a disturbance to our everyday lives.

This is the first of three references that will make my paper a debatable and controversial

topic for my senior paper. This article is filled with honest and positive assumptions about

the average black male. These positive and honest assumptions will give my paper a

positive insight on what's to come for the audience or even the person who is grading my

paper. Reading this article about the average African American male and his “struggles

will help me to believe that there is a negative view on African Americans.
