1. Given the following equation: 2 C4H10 + 13 O2 ---> 8 CO2 + 10 H2O, find the following molar
ratios
a. C4H10 / O2
b. O2 / CO2
c. O2 / H2O
d. C4H10 / CO2
e. C4H10 / H2O
8. Molten iron and carbon monoxide are produced in a blast furnace by the reaction of iron(III)
oxide and coke (pure carbon). If 25.0 kilograms of pure Fe2O3 is used, how many kilograms of
iron can be produced? The reaction is: Fe2O3 + 3 C ---> 2 Fe + 3 CO
9. The average human requires 120.0 grams of glucose (C6H12O6) per day. How many grams of
CO2 (in the photosynthesis reaction) are required for this amount of glucose? The photosynthetic
reaction is: 6 CO2 + 6 H2O ---> C6H12O6 + 6 O2
10. Given the reaction: 4 NH3 (g) + 5 O2 (g) ---> 4 NO (g) + 6 H2O (l)
When 1.20 mole of ammonia reacts, the total number of moles of products formed is:
b. If I combined 15.0 grams of calcium hydroxide with 75.0 mL of 0.500 mol/dm3 HCl, how
many grams of calcium chloride would be formed?
d. How many grams of the excess reagent will be left over after the reaction in question b is
complete?
12. Calcium carbonate decomposes at high temperatures to form carbon dioxide and calcium
oxide
How many grams of calcium carbonate will I need to form 3.45 liters (r.t.p) of carbon dioxide?
13. Ethylene burns in oxygen to form carbon dioxide and water vapor
C2H4(g) + 3 O2(g) 2 CO2(g) + 2 H2O(g)
How many liters of water can be formed if 1.25 liters (r.t.p) of ethylene are consumed in this
reaction?
b. If 18.5 grams of iron (III) sulfate are actually made when I do this reaction, what is my percent
yield?
d. If I do this reaction with 15 grams of sodium sulfate and get a 65.0% yield, how many grams
of sodium phosphate will I make?
16. For a and b, answer the following questions: (1) Which of the reagents is the limiting
reagent? (2) What is the maximum amount of each product that can be formed? And (3) How
much of the other reagent is left over after the reaction is complete?
Answer the questions above, assuming we started with 30 grams of ammonium nitrate and 50
grams of sodium phosphate.
Answer the questions at the top of this sheet, assuming we start with 100 grams of calcium
carbonate and 45 grams of iron (III) phosphate.
