Latest technology in V-belt drives and Tension Devices

V belts - are generally endless, and their general cross-section shape is roughly trapezoidal the
"V" shape of the belt tracks in a mating groove in the pulley (or sheave), with the result that the
belt cannot slip off. The belt also tends to wedge into the groove as the load increases—the
greater the load, the greater the wedging action improving torque transmission and making the
V-belt an effective solution.
TYPES OF V BELT
Conventional Belt - The conventional V-belt is the most common belt in use. These belts are
sized as to cross-section and there are five cross-section sizes (A, B, C, D, E)

Narrow V-Belt - Narrow cross-section V-belts transmit up to three times the horsepower of
conventional V-belts in the same drive space, or the same horsepower.
Molded Notched V-Belts - Notched V-belts provide higher horsepower rating than conventional
cross-section belts. They are suited for drives with smaller sheave diameters where conventional
cross-section V-belts would not be practical The molded notch in the belt’s bottom surface helps
to reduce bending stress and provides uniform distribution of load. Notches also help to dissipate
the heat of rapid flexing.

Double V-Belts - Double V-belts are used on serpentine drives transmit power to two or more
sheaves through both the top and bottom of the belt.

Gates Quad-Power® 4 V-belts are constructed with the most advanced technology, new
generation of EPDM belts are designed for longer service life eliminating costly downtime for
re-tensioning, repair and replacement.
Example of latest EPDM technology
EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber), is an elastomer characterized by a
wide range of applications. It is widely accepted around the world due to its excellent resistance
to steam, water and heat, as well as ozone, sunlight, mild acidic, alkali and oxygenated solvents.
Peroxide cured EPDM compounds have a better chemical and thermal resistance. Where
peroxide cured EPDM can resist a temperature up to 150 C (300 F)
DUNLOP V & WEDGE BELTS are manufactured in a polybutadiene compound, applied
technology allows good dimensional precision in the manufacture of V-BELTS to make them
suitable for multiple transmissions. This dimensional stability continues also during belt use. V
& Wedge Belts are developed with high resistant tensile elements, they are characterized by high
performances, length stability during belt life, conductivity, oil and heat resistance

CHEMICAL FEATURES
• Working temperature range -30˚C to +80˚C
• Resistance to oil and heat
• Antistatic properties to ISO 1813

V-BELTS RAW EDGE COGGED

Energy saving, higher performance thanks to their flexibility. Belts with a higher performance
level have a longer service life . Special designs with Raw edges that allow higher slipping
resistance even when they are working with low installation tensions. Maximum resistance to the
action of heat and oils. High antistatic properties conforming to ISO1813.
Ethylene V-Belt technology - Ethylene belts hold up better in extreme operating conditions
including the stifling conditions inside a belt guard.
LONGER LIFE AT EXTREME TEMPERATURES
› Ethylene rubber material resists hardening
to avoid cracking
› 88% broader temperature range compared
to other belts
› Meets ARPM/RMA standards for oil and heat
resistance as well as static conductivity

WF-TM NANO TENSION METER
A precise pre-tension has an extremely positive effect on the service life of the drive belt.
The WF-TM Nano measuring device is used for quick and simple measurement of the belt pre-
tension. It is fully electronic and equipped with the most modern microprocessor technology.
This leads to simple handling and a high degree of measuring precision.
The principle of forced string vibrations is applied. If a pulse is transferred to the belt, it vibrates
initially within all vibration types, but the high-frequency vibrations die down faster than the
basic vibration. There is a direct relationship between the basic vibration frequency and the belt
pre-tension, i.e. the higher the string frequency on the same belt, the higher the belt pre-tension.
In short: The WF-TM Nano measuring device is both a precise and simple method to set the
appropriate belt pre-tension.

Poly-V belts and V-belts feature our exclusive Quiet Channel Technology™ that utilizes a
sequential cog profile, along with a highly advanced rubber compound, to virtually eliminate the
chirps, squeaks and squeals associated with typical pulley misalignment.

POLY-V BELT
The Poly-V® belt features a tooth profile unique to the industry. Its advanced compounds resist
heat and cracking to create a more flexible, cooler running belt for greater wear resistance. This
innovative technology is trusted by professionals.
EXTREME POLY-V® BELT
Continental’s Extreme Poly-V® Belt is more robust, has a longer life, withstands extreme
temperature build-up (hot and cold) and contains an abrasion-resistant compound. Designed with
modern diesel class 6 to 8 HD truck applications in mind, the Extreme Poly-V® Belt lasts for
1,000 continuous hours of extreme conditions before failing and has a 100,000-mile guarantee.

STRETCH BELT
The Stretch Belt utilizes advanced self-tensioning technology to eliminate the need for
mechanical tensioners on specific applications. Its low module and high elongation technologies
provide “self-tensioning” capabilities. Stretch belts are built with our Quiet Channel
Technology™.
