Opening:

 Say hello
 Review and chant the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 song and clapping rhythm

Transition –

Get out xylophones and mallets

Primary Focus:

Objective:

Students will improvise a melody in pentatonic to a set rhythm over a walking bass line.

 Get out xylophones and remove F A and C


 Give students an opportunity to practice improvisation in pentatonic to the rhythm of 1, 2, 3, 4,
5
 Add in element of playing along over the walking bass line
 Have students solo their improvisation over walking bass line

Assessment:

Every student will solo their improvisation over the walking bass line. This will ensure they are playing
the correct rhythm and keeping the beat over a bass line.

Standard:

Generate musical ideas (such as rhythms, melodies, and accompaniment patterns) within specific
related tonalities, meters, and simple chord changes. MU:Cr1.1.5b

Transition –

Put away xylophones and form two intertwined circles in the center of the room

Change of Pace:

Objective:
Students will express dynamic and texture changes through a choreographed movement to O Fortuna.

 Review movements for O Fortuna


 Add on the ending movements
 Add in music and do the whole movement with O Fortuna

Standard:

Exhibit music literacy by speaking and writing about music; interacting with subject-specific words,
symbols, and notation; and presenting musical concepts through movement, gestures, or other non-
verbal means. MU:Cn10.1.5a-WI

Transition –

Pass out recorders and sit up front by the projector

Secondary Focus:

Objective:

Students will name and play absolute pitches BAGED on recorders.

 Play BOP game naming absolute pitches BAGED


 Play BOP game playing pitches BAGED on recorders
 Review blue belt song for Recorder Karate

Standards:

When analyzing selected music, read and perform using standard notation. MU:Pr4.2.5b

Rehearse to refine technical accuracy and expressive qualities to address challenges, and show
improvement over time. MU:Pr5.1.5b

Transition –

Put away recorders and go to spots

Closing:

Objective:

Students will preliminarily listen to Edelweiss and connect to what they are learning about WWII in
English and History.

 Listen to Edelweiss to prepare for next class period


Standard:

Demonstrate understanding of the relationship between music and the other arts or subject areas,
including musical and extra-musical considerations. MU:Cn11.1.5b-WI
