Dear Student Ministry Leader,
We are thrilled to announce to you the details for Turning Point, sponsored by Nebraska Christian
College, November 5 & 6, 2010. Our theme for the weekend, PAUSE, was carefully chosen to respond
to the cultural reality today’s teenagers face.
You see this reality lived out everyday among your students, but recent data demonstrates that:
39% of 15‐18 year olds feel constant pressure to accomplish more than they could handle.
64% of 15‐18 year olds report cutting back on sleep in order to get things done.
85% of 15‐18 year olds fail to get enough sleep at night.
We believe there is a spiritual answer to this cultural problem. The Bible calls it Sabbath – the God
ordained practice of reconnecting with ourselves, others, and God through intentional worship, play,
and renewal.
Through the theme of PAUSE we want to partner with you in helping students understand and
practice a contemporary approach to Sabbath. Sabbath is much more than an escape from the
busyness of life – it is encountering God in the midst of the busyness. Some highlights of our time
together will include:
Emphasis on corporate, personal, and small group worship – there will be fewer extended
preaching/teaching sessions and more focus on encountering God through things like
solitude, prayer, and youth group time.
Emphasis on play – Sabbath is not just about catching up on sleep, it is about experiencing
joy. We want students to experience the spiritual value of play and fun.
Emphasis on renewal – in the midst of our busyness we loose our connection with God and
others. The weekend will feature opportunities for student’s to renew old friendships, make
new friends, and enjoy the company of God and his people.
The purpose of Turning Point is to provide 9th – 12th grade students solid biblical teaching that
challenges them to spiritual growth and reminds them of God’s call on their life. Because of this
purpose, Turning Point is designed to be more of a discipleship event than an evangelistic event. The
event will be filled with lots of fun, laughter, and relaxation, but it will also have spiritual depth and
challenge. We hope the weekend offers something of value for each of your students.
Turning Point will be held at the Kroc Center www.omahakroc.org, a multi‐million dollar facility that
offers lots of opportunity for spiritual and recreational activity, including an indoor water park (so
encourage students to pack a swim suit). Registration will begin at 5:30 on Friday and the
programming will begin at 7:00 pm. We will conclude on Saturday by 3:00 pm. Housing will be at the
NCC campus. Breakfast will be provided for those staying on campus, and Saturday’s lunch will be
provided at the Kroc Center. The registration fee remains unchanged ‐ $35 for students and $15 for
sponsors. Promotional material, registration form, and other information can be found at
www.nechristian.edu/turning‐point. We hope that you will partner with us for this event by
encouraging your students to attend and praying for an authentic “Turning Point” in their lives.
Blessings,
The NCC Admissions Team
