Layla, the blue text below is your previous observation report and the black
is from today.
Strengths of the lesson:
 Clear lesson plan – you need to have a far more detailed lesson plan setting out everything
you plan to do. I need to have this 2 days before your next observation
 Nice contact and interaction with the children – this is still fine but you are not getting
down to the children’s level and, therefore, you are not developing a relationship with
them.
 Good clear voice – this is still fine but you must use your voice to manage the students as
well as eye contact.

Focus for next lesson:

 You spent far too long on the carpet – this should be no more than 10/12 minutes. Again
you spent far too long on the carpet and the children were bored and getting restless. The
maximum length of time should be 9 minutes and the next time I observe you, do not go
over this time
 Have 2/3 activities and ensure they are challenging enough – these children are bright so
you need to challenge them. The one activity you had today was not sufficient to respond to
the learning needs of these children. You need to have 3 activities (minimum) and 2 of these
should be practical and hands on.
 Don’t let any child shout the answers out – insist on raised hands and model this for the
children. Once they have accomplished this well, give lots of explicit positive feedback – I
should not have to remind you of this!!
 You need to put yourself in the position of the students – can you sit for 25 minutes on the
floor listening to somebody talking? Would you be able to write a number of words from
memory? Think about all of the things I have mentioned above and I will come and
observe you soon.

Planning for Learning

Completed lesson plan for every lesson, printed and available to MST and MCT upon request
Ensure lesson plans have sufficient detail to secure effective delivery
Lesson plans are linked to long range and unit plans – only EYFS – to develop
Learning objectives are testable and directly linked to curriculum outcomes
Lesson plans have clear assessment which includes formative and/or summative activities
Lesson plans are balanced securing lessons which are engaging, effective and student centered
Differentiation has been incorporated into lesson plans where appropriate and needed
Comments: Layla, I need to see evidence of all of the above in your lesson plan.

Managing Learning
Uses cooperative learning as part of their learning environment
Uses appropriate classroom management strategies to secure a safe and effective learning
environment
Establishes and manages classroom routines and transitions
Comments:
You need to focus on classroom management and effective transitions

Implementing Learning

Comments:
Ensure you do the above and this will help you in classroom management

Implement valid and reliable summative assessment strategies where appropriate
Students have organized a system to effectively record student data and information
Constructive feedback is provided to students in a timely and appropriate manner
Assessment data is used to inform planning and instruction
Comments:
You need to document long, mid and short term planning as well as the above in your Eportfolio so
make sure you get evidence of this during TP.

Reflection on Practice
Reflect on wider educational matters such as ethics, morals, culture, historical contexts and how these
impact student learning leading to change of practice
Reflect on student learning
Reflect on their own practice leading to improvement of practice
Reflections are conducted and recorded consistently and are accessible to the MST and MCT
Comments:
Be sure to think about the areas highlighted in blue and include in your reflections. You can also include
them in your research.
