Guiding Principle #1- Demonstrating Subject Matter Expertise

During my lessons, the students were respectful and listened to me. Throughout my

ACB experience, I taught small group guided reading lessons. After my all about me

lesson, I hung the class puzzle we created in the hallway to display the students’ work.

After my anti-bullying lesson, I displayed the student’s work on the classroom door. I

used the book A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon. During the lesson, the

students decorated lima beans with something about themselves that they embrace.

During my EdTPA math reteach lesson, the students individually solved problems on

their whiteboards and then showed their final answer to me. I was aware of student

learning needs and differentiated my lesson plans to accommodate them. All of the

students showed enthusiasm for school as they entered the classroom in the morning.

They were always glad to see me and excited to start the day.

Guiding Principle #2- Demonstrating Excellence in Planning and Practice

Throughout my ACB experience, I included technology into my lessons. I used

powerpoints, videos, and kahoot. During the science unit, students used chromebooks

on their own to research their flower. On the last day of the science unit, the students

and parents played an online jeopardy game against each other. I developed a rubric to

grade the plant project displays that the students created during the plant unit. The plant

unit was interdisciplinary and incorporrated language arts, mathematics, social studies,

and arts. The incorporration of multiple subjects into my lessons addressed multiple

intelligences.
Guiding Principle #3- Demonstrating a Commitmant to All Learners

At the beginnning of my lessons, I asked questions to assess students prior knowledge.

My anti-bullying lesson asked the students to embrace their own differences and their

classmates differences. I often incorrporated a song into my lesson for students who are

auditory or kinesthetic learners. The students were encouraged to sing along or dance

to the songs.

Guiding Principle #4- Demonstrating a Strong, Positive Effect on Student Growth

For the culminating activity of the plant unit, parents were invited into the classroom. A

letter was sent home explaining what the students had been learning throughout the

unit. The letter also invited the parents to visit the classroom and asked for them to

RSVP.

Guiding Principle #5- Demonstrating Professionalism, Advocacy, and Leadership

I belong to the Student New Jersey Education Association (SNJEA) organization at The

College of New Jersey. Through the organization, I stay up to date on current events

related to eduation. I volunteered through the organization to tutor once a week at a

nearby school. I drove other TCNJ students to the school and back to campus.
