The Scary Part of Life

College is a frightening word to hear. It means you’re going to have to grow up and do

everything that your parents have done for you such as bills and car insurance all on your own.

Everyone eventually experiences how college is no joke and it takes a lot of responsibility. The

worst thing about college is that no matter what you’re going to hit those patches in life where

you just don’t know what to do and you just can’t give up. I have visited with 4 to 5 different

colleges and have been interested in several majors. It’s scary but I have to make a decision

soon to make my path and it all starts with picking the right college that would do the best for me

in the future and what career I am wanting to pursue.

First things first, I have to decide where I want to go that will do the best for me. I have

planned to stay close but if I have to i am willing to go farther if it is best for me. The thing that is

the most important to me is money. The colleges that I have thought about going to is

Shawnee, Rio, or Wright State. I am wanting to attend the cheapest school but also go to the

school that I can get the most money from. Shawnee’s tuition per a year is $8,335 and that will

bump down with other scholarships that I may get(. Rio Grande is really cheap your first two

years of college at only $3,000 per a year but then everyone’s junior and senior year it bumps

up to $25,000 per a year because Rio switches from a public school to a private school.

According to WrightState.edu The cost for tuition per a semester at Wright State University is

$10,516. Money is going to be a big factor because I am wanting to come out of college with the

least amount of debt as possible but I also want to go to a place that I know i will still enjoy my

time in college.

The second most important thing is that I want to be able to enjoy college as much as

possible. I want to be on a campus that makes me feel so welcome that it makes me feel like I

can succeed and let me know that I can get help with anything as much as possible. I have

visited the three colleges that I have mentioned before and there are a lot that is different about

all of these campuses. Shawnee’s campus is a nice campus and one of the main reasons why I

like Shawnee’s campus is because it is just like home because it's not far from home. I feel like

if I don’t go far from home I will be able to look to people that I know for guidance that will help

me reach my goals. There is a lot of positives for me to succeed with Shawnee. The campus for

Rio Grande is not a bad campus at all either and I have a lot of the same feelings with Rio’s

campus just like Shawnee’s campus. It not far from home just like Shawnee. At Rio I have a lot

of relationships with people such as the basketball coach at Rio Grande Coach French and

having people that i know there makes me feel more comfortable with the campus and myself

as a student to succeed. My visit with Wright State University was great. they made me feel

great and welcomed and the most thing that I like about Wright State on my visit is that how

much nature is involved with their campus. When you’re walking on the sidewalks of this

campus you feel like you are hiking through the mountains on a trail and it’s cool if is hot out

because you are underneath trees the whole time and if it gets cold outside they have a heated

underground tunnel to walk to your classes. It’s further out than the other campuses but it’s a

beautiful campus to be at.

Last but not least, is what major do I want to pursue at these colleges and I have many

thoughts about which major I will choose. I have always wanted to become a Physical Therapist

because of my connections with sports. If I went to Shawnee I would major to get my bachelors

in health science or I could major to become a physical therapist assistant. Same thing goes

with Rio Grande. Wright State University I would go for my bachelors in Physical Education. I

have also thought about going into education to become a teacher because I’m great with kids

and I have looked up to a lot of my teachers for help with my future in high school. I would like to

be that person that a high school kid can come ask me for future advice. Shawnee has a good

program to become a teacher. If I end up not doing that I want to go into computer engineering

because I always found all the stuff interesting and Wright State has one of the top programs for

Computer Engineering.

In the end, all of these colleges that I have talked about throughout this paper are great

and have many paths that I can take. Out of all the Colleges I am probably leaning the most

towards Shawnee because it definitely has a lot more positives than negatives and the most

important thing is that it is cheap. I know I wanted to stay close but I would have choose Wright

State as my second option because the campus wins me over because it's just a beautiful

campus. It’s tuition per a semester is only $2,000 more than Shawnee. The biggest thing with

Rio is that is gets really expensive the last two years. It’s hard to say that i will have to choose

what college I will go to because it will be a test for me but I will be prepared for whatever lies

ahead of me.
