Objectives Students will be able to:
 Contrast the different ways to
set up desks in a classroom after
class activity and discussion
 Relate the organization of a
history classroom to other
subjects
Vocabulary: Rows- traditional classroom set up
with desks in rows facing one direction

U-shape- desks line both sides of the

room and across the back all facing
toward the center of the room

Small Groups- The desks are broken

into groups of 3-4 and face each other
spread out around the room
Estimated Time 15 minutes
Materials Required PowerPoint
Classroom with tables or desks
Procedure BEFORE:
Each professor may choose to align
this section to his/her content areas.
This section will include anticipated

 I will start by having the
students think about what their
history classrooms looked like in
high school to get them thinking
about the topic.
DURING:
 Organization- We will look at a
picture of the different methods
or organizing desks. We will
move the classroom tables into
those designs and discuss each
of them
 Decoration- We will discuss the
different implications of
decorating a classroom. It will
cover the spectrum of sterile to
clutter.
 I will then relate this thought
process to other subject areas
AFTER:
 I will explain how I envision my
future classroom.
 I will then look to the students
to explain their vision for their
future classrooms.
Students will be asked to discuss some
of the positives and negatives of each
style of desk organization
