Speak Up

A word is a sword that can alter the world.

A leader should know how to rein the words
appropriately in front of a crowd, to make the
things done. But public speaking is a fear that
many of us have. That is why, the Leo Club of
University of Moratuwa planned to participate in
toastmaster basics workshops, by joining hands
with the Toastmasters Club of Rathmalana, with
the intention of polishing the public speaking
skills of the fellow members in our club.

The first and second phases of this joint project

were held on September 9th and 30th at Toyota
Auditorium, Rathmalana. There were several
sessions with the participation of our Leos and
prospects together with the members of the
Toastmasters Club, and some other sessions
done by them to make our members understand,
what a public speaking should be like.

The two phases already conducted proved

that, this project is a very good opportunity
to our club members and prospects, to gather
an experience on public speaking, in order to
develop their leadership skills. Therefore, we
have planned to continue this project, with some
more advanced sessions in future.

Firm Stance

UoM Leo club is a place where we gain proper opportunities to improve our
leadership skills with boundless experiences. Firm stance was a reflection on
who we were and what we are today as the home of the outstanding leaders
who serves the humanity, Because the flash back of the past and better
knowledge of the present is always conduce to the betterment of the future.
As UoM Leos, we should have a proper knowledge about the vision and
mission of the leoism and the background of our own Leo club.

With this leading objective firm stance was organized as an awareness

program on 14th September at university premises. It was conducted by our
past club secretary and past district secretary (District 306A2) Leo Kasun
Himala Geeganage. Members, prospects and past Leos of UoM Leo club
actively participated to this session and they got the opportunity of knowing
the history of leoism, multiple district hierarchy of the Sri Lankan clubs,
history of UoM Leo club, the exclusive leaders of our club, the activities
done by our club and information about current project series. We believe
that the perception we gained by this program will definitely help us to turn
as a proud Leo of the most outstanding Leo club in Sri Lanka.

Stress Management

Stress is what you feel, when you have to handle more than you are used to
be. No one gets rid of stress, but everyone should lower it as much as possible.
Little stress keeps life interesting and motivates you to do the best.

Once, you exceeded your stress limits (Stress Overloaded) it makes you sick,
unhappy, and you may even feel to commit suicide.

There are many stress management techniques, which helps you to get stress
under controlled. One of the best ways to relieve your stress, is to do exercises
regularly. Apart from that, engaging in something you really enjoy, sharing
your feelings even anger with one of your friends or relatives you can trust
most, meet a counsellor are some other ways to relax your mind and lower
the stress level.

Both under-loaded stress and overloaded stress will be a barrier to your

success whereas, optimum stress will help you to achieve the success. By
understanding your Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats, you
can manage your stress level in an effective way.

So, make sure to learn healthy ways to relieve your stress and reduce its
