HOD (EC)
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We sincerely thank the Institute of Technology, Nirma Univeristy and respected Prof. Vaishali
Dhare for providing us the necessary resources, motivation and guidance to learn about the
topic Green India as our seminar topic this semester. It is due to the dedicated efforts our
guide and her belief in us,due to which we have learned something valuable today.
ABSTRACT

The increase in environmental awareness has resulted in a spate of activities to conserve it.
The perception that we have always been and will continue to remain at the mercy of nature is
very clear. As active citizens of this planet, we are duty bound to play our parts today, in order
to secure our tomorrow. The Govt. of India has been closely monitoring the effects on the
environment and is trying it’s best to help save and protect it. The Forest department of the
country is developing ways to preserve India’s natural beauty and their goal is towards the
sustainable development of the natural resources. Green India projects include the fostering of
Organic farming to the implementation of stringent industrial waste treatment rules to how
technology can ease the life of farmers and increase the agriculture growth of our country, the
government has provided facilities and policies to help us protect nature. During the study on
Green India we researched on the projects that have been already recognized and implemented
by the Govt. We finally ended up studying one such project the “Smart Dustbin” and concluded
the work. We look forward making such projects so that we can contribute a small part towards
the GREEN INDIA movement.

Chapter 1

1.1 Introduction
• This report consists of information about what is Green India Mission, what are the
projects that are already implemented under this mission and a case study on one such
project ”Smart Dustbins”.

• Technology plays a significant role in Green India where it has a major contribution in
improving the life of Farmers and bringing efficiency in FARM MANAGEMENT and use
of resources.

• We with the help of our seniors, worked on such small innovation “Soil Moisture Sensor”
which had various applications in Agriculture, Landscape irrigation, Research and simple
sensors for Gardeners.

• Several projects like:

a. Banyan Nation – Recycling plastic

b. EnCashea -Collecting waste in exchange of waste

c. Fourth Partner Energy – Making solar energy accessible

d. SaysTrees -Tree Plantation Drives

are already implemented and supported by the Govt. of India for promoting this Green
India Movement.

• The mission envisages a holistic view of greening and focuses on numerous ecosystem
services such as biodiversity, preservation of mangroves, wetlands and critical habitats
and preservation of water and biomass along with carbon sequestration.
1.2 Green India Mission

The National Mission for Green India (GIM) is one of the eight Missions outlined under
the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC). It aims at protecting; restoring
and enhancing India’s diminishing forest cover and responding to climate change by a
combination of adaptation and mitigation measures. It envisages a holistic view of
greening and focuses on multiple ecosystem services, especially, biodiversity, water,
biomass, preserving mangroves, wetlands, critical habitats etc. along with carbon
sequestration as a co-benefit. This mission has adopted an integrated cross-sectoral
approach as it will be implemented on both public as well as private lands with a key role
of the local communities in planning, decision making, implementation and monitoring.

1.3 Scope of seminar

With all the information we gathered and the research conducted, we were able to identify
many of the problems in and around us and hopefully look for solutions. All the projects under
Green India are focused on one single goal to achieve sustainable solution. As
active citizens of this planet, we are duty bound to play our parts today, in order to secure our
tomorrow. We look forward making such projects and contribute a value to the nation!

1.4 Objective of seminar

Our main motivation behind this seminar is to identify the small problems in and around us like
waste management, loss of the vegetation due to urbanization, limited availability of natural
resources and how can we further try solving small problems so that we can protect our
nature.
Chapter 2: Projects under GREEN INDIA
2.1 Streets made of Plastic:
Plastic roads are roads made either entirely of plastic or of composites of plastic with other
materials. Plastic roads are different from standard roads in the respect that standard roads are
made from asphalt concrete, which consists of mineral aggregates and asphalt. Currently, there
are no records of regular roads made purely of plastic. Plastic composite roads, however, have
existed and demonstrate characteristics superior to regular asphalt concrete roads; specifically,
they show better wear resistance. The implementation of plastics in roads also opens a new
option for recycling post-consumer plastics. This technology is getting replicated very fast in
Jharkhand, after the plastic road laid at Jamshedpur city on 30th November 2011. Many counties
like Nigeria, Australia, Kenya etc. and the Indian cities like Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad and Giridih
have also learnt this technology from Jusco, A Tata Enterprise by the expert and
Environmentalist Mr. Gaurav Anand. Mr. Anand, a disciple of Dr. R. Vasudevan is also involved
in promoting this technology for mankind for free.
2.2 Encashea: Collecting waste in exchange of cash
Bengaluru-based Encashea collects scrap waste for cash in select areas of the city. They pay
you for segregating your recyclable scrap properly, lowering its environmental impact.
Encashea has an Android app that makes it easy for users to request for a pickup. EnCashea
has the prices for trash listed on the website. While books can go for up to Rs. 6 per kg, e-
waste can be sold for upto Rs. 10/kg.

2.3 Priti International-Ecommerce for products made out

of waste
Hritesh Lohiya literally found his fortune in a trashcan. His startup Priti International recycles
industrial and consumer waste into useful products. This $10million firm designs and
manufactures handmade products out of waste materials, like handbags from old gunny bags,
cast off military tents and denim pants. They also produce furniture from waste tins, drums, old
military jeeps, tractor parts, waste machine parts and lamps from old scooter and bike lights .
3.1 SMART DUSTBIN
This project work is the implementation of Automatic Garbage Fill Alerting system
using Ultrasonic sensor, Arduino Uno, Buzzer and Wi-Fi module. This system assures the
cleaning of dustbins soon when the garbage level reaches its maximum. It will take power
supply with the help of Piezoelectric Device .If the dustbin is not cleaned in specific time,
hen the record is sent to the Sweeper or higher authority who can take appropriate action
against the concerned contractor. This system also helps to monitor the fake reports and
hence can reduce the corruption in the overall management system. This reduces the total
number of trips of garbage collection vehicle and hence reduces the overall expenditure
associated with the garbage collection. It ultimately helps to keep cleanliness in the
society. Therefore, the Automatic Garbage Fill Alerting system makes the garbage
collection more efficient.

Test Result
The dustbin is able to open the lid with the help of servo motor and PIR sensor whenever
it detects motion. The ultrasonic sensor is giving the details about the waste present in the
dustbin. The status of the waste is transferred to the municipal authority whenever it is
exceeding the threshold value.
3.2 WIFI BIN
The duo behind the five-year-old startup invented a trash can that rewards people with free
WiFi every time they throw something away. "The idea behind ThinkScream was to solve
everyday problems in an innovative way, one solution at a time," says co-founder of
ThinkScream, Raj Desai.

The four-and-a-half feet high plastic bin comes equipped with an LED screen that generates
an access code whenever someone throws something in it.
CONCLUSION:
We were able to identify many of the problems related to nature and the hour has come that
young people like us should come forward and take initiatives to solve these problems and
maintain the ecological balance of our mother Earth. When we were studying about the
various projects that are already implemented they all started with common daily life problems,
all you need is the eye to see it and the vision to find the solution to that problem.
