For the majority of my adult life, I felt a void because I did not know who or what I was
going to be when I grew up. I was very good at a lot of things, but nothing that I did made my
heart sing. The knowledge that I was not living up to my potential; that I was not inspired to be
my very best and to seek the pinnacle of a career path made me sad and extremely fearful that I
would have to face my golden years wrought with regret due to potential not realized. Then I
decided to take the plunge and apply to nursing school. Since graduation, I finally feel like I
It is a blessing when one knows where their true passion lies, and I am fortunate enough
to have realized that my calling falls within providing gynecological and obstetrical primary care
across the age continuum for girls and women alike. In the first year following the completion of
University of Cincinnati’s Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Program and begin classes in
safe environment where new nurses can successfully transition from school to the bedside. So in
the upcoming months, I hope to complete my hospital’s preceptor program and help with the
orientation of new nurses to our unit and hospital. Just as I believe that it is my duty to assist
with the education of new nurses, I am also equally committed to the continuance of my
professional education and so, by February 2019, I plan to achieve certification in both

betterment of gynecological and obstetrical health, I plan to join the Association of Women’s
Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) and partake in courses on fetal heart
monitoring and other classes that are pertinent to women’s health. I plan to find a part time job
within the obstetric or gynecological field to further cement my understanding of new concepts.
Lastly, I would like to continue with the education of new nurses and nursing students by
securing a part time position within the local community college teaching fundamental nursing
laboratory skills. I find the enthusiasm and integrity of new nurses and nursing students
inspiring and would like to continue developing a symbiotic relationship with the new
Five years post graduation; it is my goal to have completed the FNP program at
University of Cincinnati, pass the appropriate state licensing requirements and seek a position
that will allow me to have a positive impact on the gynecological health of local women and girls
across the age continuum. As a FNP, I would like to focus on home health nursing for new
mothers as they and their babies transition into the extrauterine phase of their relationships.
During my time as a new and inexperienced mother, I had many questions and felt isolated by
my ignorance. My anxiety and fear of making a mistake at times was overwhelming and I would
have jumped at the opportunity to speak with a visiting practitioner in the comfort of my own
home. Armed with my personal experiences, I would like to help new mothers who have limited
resources so that they can have a good experience and feel comfortable in their new roles as
parents.
I believe that change is necessary for growth and growth is necessary for improvement. I
more comfortable. As I seek new opportunities and start on new paths, I find that as I get closer
