INTRODUCTION

A. Th1s manual gives an thé necessary data to understand thé functlon,

repair and overhaul of thé Température Sensor. Air Transport Association
of Amènes spécification ATA 100, Revision No. 28, was used to prépare
this CW.
Thé Association Européenne des Constructeurs de Matériel Aérospatial,
simplifled Engllsh document PSC-85»16598, Révision No. 05, was also
used. An ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST 1s included as a part of thé CMM.
B. Thé maintenance instructions are given in thèse sections:

1. DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

A. Description
(1) Thé température sensors consist of a cyliiidrical body wlth holes
bored through to allow passage of a1r for models 764AOOOO or a
shorter cylindncal body made of statnless steel ended wlth 2 tubes
for models 764BOOOO. A screw thread on thé sensor body pennlts

(2) Thé sensors hâve a squared head wlth a lower clrcular section whlch
contains a groove for ? preformed packlng. An electrlcal slx-pln
connector 1s attached to fhe sensor head .

B. Opération
(1) Thé sensor body contains a négative-température coefficient (NTC)
thennlstor. As thé ambient température changes, thé résistance of thé
thermlstor changes In proportion. Thé voltage measured across thé
thermlstor is thus related direct!y to thé température.

2. TESTING AND FAULT ISOLATION

A. Gênerai

(1) Thé data that follows permit tests of thé sensor to make sure that it
opérâtes correctly.

B. Spécial Tools and Equipèrent

(1) Megohnnieter which supplies 45 VDC.

(2) Ohimieter w1th: - Current less than 0,1 mA,

- Accuracy 0.05 %.
- Range 0-100 KQ.

(3) Température controHed oven : accuracy 0.1°C.

(4) Ohinneter-Sensor connection wires : 18 gauge, length less than 1 ni.

C. Visual Check

(1) Make a Visual check of thé sensor for obvious damage.

D. Insulation Résistance Test

(1) Apply 45 VDC between pins C. D, E and F connected together and ground
connected pin A. Thé minimum insulatlon résistance for hot condition
must be 400 MQ.

E. Thermistor 1 Check (pins C and D) (Réf. Fig. 3)

(1) Connect thermistor 1 to an ohmmeter w1th a measuring current of less

than 0,1 mA.

(2) Hold thé thermistor at a température of + 5°C ± 0.1°C î40.8°F to

41.2"F) by use of an oven w1th controlled température. Check
résistance value of thermistor is in thé range
23530 Q ± 950 Î2 .

(3) Increase thé thermistor température to + 50°C ± 0.1°C (121.8°F to

122.2°F) by use of thé oven. Make sure that thé résistance value of
thé thennlstor 1s In thé range 3903 Q ± 220 Q.

F. Thennlstor 2 Test (pins E and F) (Réf. F1g. 3)

(1) Follows para. E steps (1) to (3) again for thennlstor 2.

PARTS MUST BE CLEANED IN A DULY V['NTILATED ROOM.
CLEANING STEPS MUST NOT BE DONE IN THE VICINITY
OF ANY OPEN FLAME.

B. Cleanlng Procédure

(1) A complète unit shall not be cleaned by a dtpplng or spraylng method

to avold thé rétention of cleanlng matertal wlthln parts.

(2) Preferably. an protectlve caps sha11 be fitted to thé unit.

(3) Use a Hnt-free cloth molstened w1th Methyl Alcohol, accordlng to

MIL-A-6090 spécification, or a soft brush.

(4) Dry 1n low-pressure compressed air or with a Hnt-free cloth.

5. CHECK

A. Examine thé sensor for damage and dlstortlon especlally thé pins of thé
electrical connecter.

B. After thé check, Identlfy thé sensor as g1ven below:

(1) Can be used agaln,

(2) To be dlscarded.

6 . REPAIR

I A. Thé Température Sensor is classified as "non-repalrable" and must be

discarded In thé case of defects or détective opération.

B. Storage

(1) Fit protection caps to electrical connector.

(2) Thé sensor must be stored in a clean, dry ventHated room at a
température ranging between 18°C and 28°C (64°F and 82°F) and a
relative humidity ranging between 25 and 65 ^.
(3) Thé sensor must be stored 1n its original packing.
If stacked storage 1s used, care must be taken to avotd damage caused
by excessive weight.
(4) Thé sensor must not be stored 1n thé v1c1n1ty of corroslve flulds.
heat or ozone sources.
8. FITS AND CLEARANCES

No dlmensional check of thé sensor 1s necessary.

No spécial tool is necessary.
