Teaching Statement

Teachers are people who teach future generations academic skills and social skills they

can use after their education life. Teachers educate students to become the best person they can

be. Teachers educate students to become the best person they can be to themselves and those

around them. My vision as a classroom teacher is to teach my students to not only respect the

cultures in their classroom but also those in their community and the larger world. My mission to

accomplish this vision is to teach my students about their own religion and have them observe

their community.

One thing I hope to achieve through my teachings is enlightenment. I hope to open my

students minds through education about the world they live in, what it contains and to have

respect for their peers. In my classroom, I hope I accomplish to teach my students to respect their

cultures and religions and learn from them. In school I hope that with my future students, what I

taught them in the classroom, they will expand and be open minded to their schoolmate’s ideals.

I hope my students see that even in their own community everyone has different views, beliefs

and different experiences. I hope my teachings will expand their mind so they can be open and

be willing to participate in those experiences. I hope that when they travel the larger world they

are willing to participate and learn other cultures they never could in their classroom, school, and

their community. My vision of having my students respect one another is similar to what Dyan

Watson wants for her son. In her letter to her son she explains how in her integrated school,

African Americans were not treated equally, weren’t in the history books, and were viewed as

criminals. What Watson wants for her son is the same thing I want for my students, to respect

one another, to respect their peers lives inside and outside of school.

To achieve my vision, I will show my students I will show my students the cultures in the

classroom with history and show them videos and photos. Then I will have them observe their
own communities and what they see that differs from their lifestyle and have them talk about

what they learned. Students with cultural differences can benefit from this teaching because they

themselves can chare with the class experiences or practices that aren’t portrayed in videos and

photos. They can answer questions students may have and allow them to be more open with their

peers. Students who know multiple languages can share their language to the class as a small

lecturer on how even though we all speak different language we all have communicate just as

easily as the next person. Students with different abilities can also benefit from my teachings

because I can show them that even in different cultures people can have the same abilities they

do and it shows them that they are not alone. It will show my students that others can achieve

their goals, just like other people have.

Though my teachings may take some time I hope to accomplish my mission and make

my vision a reality. I hope that my students will learn to have an open mind so they can learn

more from the larger world. My teachings make me a transformative teacher because I can

communicate with my students on a personal level. I myself can teach them about my life and it

will give them the confidence to speak and be open to their peers. We can create a student

teacher bond few educators fail to do so and this can benefit them for the entire class.
