Philosophy of Education

The purpose of education is to provide for the fullest possible development of each learner.

I believe in being a progressivism and I will educate my children based on Vygotsky’s theory in

education. My philosophy involves focusing on the whole child. In order to focus on my

philosophy I will implement the social reconstructive theory. Children learn bet through social

interactions. It is important to have children interact with their peers to learn from one another

and to build their social skills. My goal is to see my students succeed in a well-rounded

environment, prepare them for their future career, and have a strong caring relationship with the

students, the parents and the community.

I believe that the curriculum content is derived from students content. I will allow the child

to make their own decisions by letting them pick topics they would like to write about. For

instance, if the subject is art then student can have the freedom to write about any artist. I will

have them build their confidence by asking open-ended questions that they can turn into writing

prompts. This will enhance critical thinking.

I want to let the students know they are welcomed and every one is important. I will

implement this through placed base learning, establishing routines and ritual, and project based

learning. In order to have a well-rounded environment I need to make sure I put all my teaching

strategies into practice. I will start by having a classroom that is neat, colorful, and friendly and

letting the students know it is our classroom this will “encourage the students to act as teachers,

and they themselves, often functioned as learners in the classroom” (Ladson-Billings, 163).

Through teaching, my vision includes to have a welcoming classroom for everyone

because it shows how much I care for everyone to be included in my teaching career. I want to

teach them what is required of me as a teacher and go beyond the requirements. My vision aims

for students to understand every subject matters and what they learn today will come in handy in

the future, especially if they choose a career in education, engineering, music, or even NASA.

Therefore the students are a priority in my vision because “a teacher cannot build a community

of learners unless the lives of the students are integral part of the curriculum” (Peterson, 28). I

plan to build a great connection with the school and together honor the success of the students.

The community will also be included in my achievements by having students take their

knowledge outside the classroom and school and putting it to practice in community service

hours.

In the greater world, I want to be able to have a positive learning effect on everyone. They

will be able to recognize my teaching passion in my vision. I will be able to make a difference in

each person and one day become states best teacher.

My vision as an educator will be achieved by putting all my teaching strategies into practice. In

order to have a well-rounded environment I need to make sure the classroom, playground, and

school look presentable. In doing so, students are engaged in learning and not sidetracked by a

poorly well-rounded environment. I will start by having a classroom that is neat, colorful, and

friendly and letting the students know it is our classroom this will “encourage the students to act

as teachers, and they themselves, often functioned as learners in the classroom” (Ladson-

Billings, 163). In my classroom I hope to open doors for my students by having them do

activities that will benefit them in their future. For example, including students’ cultural

differences to make multiple connections with students, parents, and community. As said by

Ladson-Billings, “The trick of culturally relevant teaching is to get students to “choose”

academic excellence” (159). I will continue to follow my mission by having communication with

parents and inviting them to my classroom. For example, having parent’s day, tea with mom,

father daughter dance, parent’s workshops, and culture festivities.

I will be the best role model, teacher, friend, and counselor I can be for students, parents,

the school, and the community. I will make sure to follow my mission so I can complete this big

vision I have for teaching as and educator. I will work extra hard with the students, especially the

ones with learning disabilities because “Certainly students with disabilities need more exposure

to the general education curriculum” (King-Sears, 59). My goal is to be the teacher that takes a

hand, opens a mind, and touches a heart.
