Product description of Bosch Compress 3000 AWS heat pumps

AWBS or AWES
Compress 3000 AWS outdoor units indoor unit

Reversible split air-to-water heat pump for heating, cooling and domestic hot water production
Bosch split heat pumps meet the quality requirements the EHPA quality seal and guarantee efficient seasonal perfor-
mance factors
The outdoor and the indoor unit must be connected with pipes suitable for a cooling circuit and the system must be
filled with R410A refrigerant gas
High energy efficiency, COP up to 4.8* due to modulating compressor using inverter technology
Wide range of portfolio: 4 power output variants from 8 to 15 kW with single-phase or three-phase power supply
Two different indoor units that can be connected hydraulically to the outdoor unit:
- AWBS hybrid: hybrid system combined with any auxiliary heat generator
- AWES Electric: mono-energetic system with integrated electrical backup heating
Equipped with high-efficiency pump and anti-condensate insulation (AWES unit).
New pre-configured HPC400 control on board in the indoor unit featuring graphical user interface. Control and set the
parameters of the system like: climate control; cooling parameters; operating limits; adjusting and / or excluding elec-
trical heating (AWES unit); energy rate in case operating in bivalent system (AWBS unit); parameters for the DHW
production. Possibility of remote management via mobile application in case the IP Module accessory is installed and
connected to the internet
The outdoor units having single fan can be installed on the wall with fixing brackets or as the same way like units ha-
ving double fan on a stand
Indoor units are supplied with the outside temperature sensor, flow temperature sensor, temperature sensor for dome-
stic hot water (AWBS and AWES units) and shut-off valve with filter
Special reduced electricity tariffs are applicable thanks to the high efficiency these units provide

Installation on the ground

▶▶Make sure that heat radiation (cooling mode) from the heat exchanger is not restricted if a sunroof is built over the
unit to prevent direct sunlight or rain exposure.
▶▶Do not place the outdoor unit at the northern side of the house. Doing this can lead to lower efficiencies in operation.
▶▶Make sure that the clearances indicated by arrows at the front, back and side of the unit are observed.
▶▶Do not place plants in the path of the air flow.
▶▶Take the weight of the outdoor unit into account and select a place where noise and vibration are minimum.
▶▶When choosing a suitable location, make sure that the maximum sound pressure level will not disturb the neighbors.

Preparing the wall

If making a hole in the wall is required to connect the pipes bet-

ween the indoor unit and the outdoor
unit, please follow below descriptions.
▶▶Drill the piping hole with a Ø 70 mm hole core drill.
▶▶Piping hole should be slightly slant to the outdoor side to prevent
raindrop into indoor side.

Installing the refrigerant pipe

Before installing the refrigerant pipe, observe the constraints in relation to pipe lengths and gradients. After resolving all
constraints, some preparations are required to proceed. Then start installing the refrigerant pipe at the outdoor unit.

The rated output of the product is based on the specified standard lengths. It is important not to exceed the maximum
allowable length to ensure that the product operates reliably. Improper refrigerant charge may result in abnormal opera-
tion.

Make additional charge of the refrigerant as required according to the below table if the pipe length is longer than 7.5 m.
The single pipe length without necessary additional filling is 7.5 m. Additional filling of refrigerant is not required up to
this length. Example: if the split unit with a single pipe length of 50 m is installed, fill with an additional 1700 g refrige-
rant. The following applies: (50-7.5) x 40 g = 1700 g.

Basic system design advices*

Minimum size and design of the heating system

In order to avoid frequent start/stop cycles, incomplete defrosting therefore unnecessary alarms, sufficient energy must be available in
the heating system. This energy is stored in the pipes, radiators and all other component. Since the requirements for various heat pump
installations and heating systems will vary greatly, generally there is no minimum volume indicated. Instead apply to all heat pump sizes
the following pre-conditions!

Only floor heating circuit without buffer, without mixer

To ensure sufficient energy for defrosting cycle at least 22 m2 of heated floor area is required. It is also necessary to install into the
largest room (reference room) a temperature controller (CR10 or CR10H, please see the accessories section). The measured value will
be communicated to the main controller and will be taken into account for the calculation of the required flow temperature. (Weather
compensated control with room temperature control.) All zone valves for the reference room must be fully opened. Depending on the
heated floor area it can happen that for a complete defrost cycle the auxiliary heater will be activated.

Only radiator heating circuit without buffer, without mixer

To ensure sufficient energy for defrosting cycle make sure that at least 4 radiators each with at least 500 W power are installed. The
thermostatic valves must be fully opened if there is any. It is also necessary to install into the largest room (reference room) a tempera-
ture controller (CR10 or CR10H, please see the accessories section). The measured value will be communicated to the main controller
and will be taken into account for the calculation of the required flow temperature. (Weather compensated control with room tempera-
ture control.) Depending on the water content of the installed radiators it can happen that for a complete defrost cycle the auxiliary
heater will be activated.

Heating system with an unmixed and a mixed heating circuit without buffer
To ensure sufficient energy for defrosting cycle make sure that in the unmixed circuit at least 4 radiators each with at least 500 W power
are installed. The thermostatic valves must be fully opened if there is any. It is also necessary to install into the largest room (reference
room) a temperature controller (CR10 or CR10H, please see the accessories section). The measured value will be communicated to the
main controller and will be taken into account for the calculation of the required flow temperature. (Weather compensated control with
room temperature control.) Depending on the water content of the installed radiators it can happen that for a complete defrost cycle
the auxiliary heater will be activated.
If both heating circuits have different operating hours, each heating circuit must be able to ensure sufficient energy for defrost cycle.
Therefore beside the above conditions one must ensure that at least 22 m2 of heated floor area is installed in the mixed heating circuit.
In this case in both heating circuits should have a reference room where a temperature controller is installed.
If both heating circuits have identical operating times, there is no requirement for minimum area in the mixed heating circuit because
with the 4 radiators the proper functioning of the heat pump is ensured.

Heating system with only mixed heating circuit (also applies to heating circuit with fan coils)
To ensure sufficient energy for defrosting cycle a buffer tank is needed. The minimum volume for a system with ODU Split 8 is 50 liters,
while for a system with ODU Split 11s/t, 13s/t or 15s/t is 120 liters.

Design for cooling operation

General information
To start the cooling operation, the CR10H room controller (with humidity sensor) is required (see the accessories section) to avoid
condensation with ensuring a flow temperature higher than the current dew point. When using fan assisted convectors (e.g. fan coils)
with dehumidifying function a CR10 room controller is needed. To ensure a proper dehumidifying function the heat pump must be able
to provide flow temperature that is lower than the current dew point of the reference room. To protect against corrosion all pipes and
connections must be fitted with a suitable insulation.
The indoor units AWES are already featuring a vapor diffusion-tight thermal insulation as factory standard. The indoor units AWBS are
not insulated and therefore they are not suitable for cooling where flow temperature below the dew point is needed (e.g. fan coil system
with dehumidifying function).
Cooling through radiators is not allowed! The cooling operation is controlled by the first heating circuit (via flow temperature sensor T0
and remote control CR10H). Cooling only in the second heating circuit is therefore not possible. The block of cooling function in circuit
1 will also block the cooling in heating circuit 2.

Dynamic cooling method

In dynamic cooling mode be aware that the flow temperature can go below the dew point to achieve high cooling capacities. The room
air is cooled through heat exchangers like fan coils. At the same time the room air can be dehumidified. These fan coils need a conden-
sate drain. Only buffers with vapor diffusion-tight insulation are suitable for dynamic cooling. All piping is used must also be provided
with a vapor diffusion-tight insulation! To utilize the benefit of room temperature influenced control, a CR10 room temperature control-
ler is needed to be installed into the reference room.

Relaxed cooling method

In relaxed cooling the flow temperature is always above the dew point of the reference room. The heat is transferred to the cooling
water through floor, ceiling or wall surface cooling system. To ensure the suitable flow temperature an installation of CR10H room
temperature controller with humidity sensor is needed into the reference room. Compared to the dynamic cooling in relaxed cooling the
flow temperature will always be higher to avoid condensation therefore the provided cooling capacity is lower. In case of underfloor
cooling it is recommended to ensure that the surface temperature is not falling below 20 ºC. It is also recommended to install a dew
point sensor on the piping close to the cooled surface. Cooling of the humid areas (e.g. bathroom or kitchen) should be avoided.

In both cases a dew point sensor must be installed on the flow pipe of the indoor unit! In case of using a buffer tank without suita-
ble thermal insulation a second dew point sensor must be installed and placed right before the tank! Maximum 5 pcs of dew point
sensors can be connected to protect other critical areas as well.

advices do not substitute the professional planning of the systems!

Considering the sound effect of the heat pump

For a sound technical assessment of the installation location of the heat pump, the expected sound pressure level at the
affected areas can computationally be estimated. These sound pressure levels are calculated from the sound power level
of the device, the installation situation (directivity Q) and their distance from the heat pump by means of the following
formula: , where

LAeq is the sound pressure level at the receiver;

LAWeq is the sound power level of the sound source;

Q is the directivity (takes into account the spatial radiating conditions on the sound source, e.g. house walls);

r is the distance between the receiver and sound source (in meters).

Choosing the right output variant for heating

Determining the heat demand of a building

An exact calculation of the heat load can be done with following the instructions of the EN 12831 standard. However
rough estimating methods are also commonly used with which one can perform a quick calculation. Note that these
estimations cannot replace the proper calculation!
The heat demand is calculated from
- the heated area A;
- the specific heat loss ;
- and the temperature difference of the mean outside temperature and the designed room temperature of the
reference room

as follows: .

As a further simplification we will consider the temperature difference given in the specific heat loss and therefore the
formula will not contain it: .

Typical values for respecting the type of the building. Please note that these values may vary depending on the climatic
conditions of the different geolocations. Values in the table refer to a ΔT of 35 K.
