San Antonio Alliance and community members demand

transparency and honesty from superintendent and SAISD board
SAN ANTONIO, TX – On May 14 at 5:00 p.m., teachers, school support personnel, parents, and other
interested community members will hold a rally at 406 Barrera Street to demand transparency and
honesty from the SAISD.

Last week, during Teacher Appreciation Week, scores of SAISD teachers, some with decades of
experience, were told to resign or be terminated. As they waited in Human Resources to be informed
about their future, they were greeted with flyers for an SAISD Teacher Job Fair, to be held May 19. We
have yet to receive a straight answer from District administration about whether or not attrition,
retirement, or other factors could have eliminated the need for a reduction in force. We have heard
nothing about whether or not they intend to counteract dropping enrollment with recruitment efforts in
affected neighborhoods. Instead, our teachers have been treated as cogs in a machine, denied the dignity
and respect that SAISD champions as one of its greatest values.

On Monday night, San Antonio Alliance members, affected teachers, supporters of public education, and
community members will gather outside the board meeting to stand in solidarity with those who have
lost their jobs and demand answers from the superintendent and the SAISD Board regarding their
questionable decision making during a time when public education is under attack.

DATE: Monday, May 14, 2018

TIME: Rally starts at 5 PM. Board meeting starts at 6 PM.

WHERE: Burnet Center, 406 Barrera St.

The San Antonio Alliance of Teachers and Support Personnel represents teachers and school employees in San Antonio Independent
