2. Why are cities all over the world shaping their ambitious plans for their sustainable futures
(there are five items)?

The cities all over the world are shaping ambitious plans for a sustainable future. They are taking
real action about:

- Climate change mitigation

- Encourage economic development with emphasis in green economic.

- Resilience of disaster and climate change

- Improve the qualitu life of citizens through Livability, social inclusion which everyone can
thrive

- Taking advantage of smart technologies to improve efficience and infrastructure and


provide to citizens with better services.

3. How can business help this process?

The business can help all over the word toward a sustainable urban future through businesses
dedicated to find and implement the best solution because this is the way when it comes to create
and integrate system of urban infrastructure where buildings, energy, mobility, communication,
water and sewage operate more efficiently and sustainable for the benefit of everyone.

4. What are the possible problems in all this?

The business expertise is usually introduced too late in the PLANNING LIFE CYCLE and it avoid full
benefit such us there can be barriers to engagement like:

- Biased input.
- Lack of engagement process.
- Procurement rules.

These barriers can stop valuable dialogue between them (The businesses).

5. What has been created due to these problems and how does it work?

The World Business Council for sustainable development established the URBAN
INFRASTRUCTURE INITIATIVE (UII). It is a new and innovative model for early collaboration
between cities and business also it's a simple idea in 10 cities around the world (Yixing, Turku,
Kobe, Gujarat cities, Tilburg, Philadelphia, Guadalajara) and experts from 14 leading companies to
municipal governments gathered for working together. They identified new approaches to
realizing the city's visions of a sustainable future innovative practical solutions emerged producing
real benefits for the cities and their sustainability programs.
