Fundamental of stress analysis. Mechanical properties of materials. Normal, shear and combined
stresses. Joint and beam analyses: continuous beam, beam on elastic foundation, curved beam.
Column and buckling analyses. Thick cylinder and pressure vessel. Torsion and shaft design.
Theories of failure.

VII – Objectives:
The main objective of this course is to understand the computation of deformations, deflections,
and internal forces or stresses within structures, either for design or for performance evaluation of
existing structures.
