MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT

KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS:

This Memorandum of Agreement is a general enabling document for inter-institutional


cooperation by and between:

_________, a State College duly organized and existing by virtue of the laws of the
Philippines, as represented by ________________, with official address at Tiwi, Barotac
Nuevo, Iloilo, hereafter referred to as “HOME INSTITUTION”;

And

_____________________, a University duly organized and existing by virtue of


the laws of __________, as represented by __________________________,
________________________, with official address at _____________, hereafter
referred to as “HOST INSTITUTION”.

WITNESSETH THAT:

WHEREAS, the HOME INSTITUTION, in the exercise of its social responsibility to


promote and support international understanding, scholarly collaboration, cultural interaction
and friendship by supporting educational, professional and cultural activities among faculty and
students of the two institutions, mutually enters into this memorandum with the HOST
INSTITUTION;

WHEREAS, pursuant to such objective of improving the quality of education and skills
of the Filipino students and Faculty through the exchange of student, faculty, and conducting of
collaborative research, among others, the HOST INSTITUTION has expressed its willingness
to partner with the HOME INSTITUTION;

NOW, THEREFORE, for and in consideration of the foregoing premises and of the
terms hereinafter provided, the parties hereby agree to execute this Memorandum of Agreement
under the following terms and conditions:

PART I: SCOPE OF THE COOPERATION

The purpose of this agreement is to promote and develop academic and educational
cooperation, international understanding, cultural interaction and friendship by supporting
educational, professional and cultural activities among faculty and students of the HOME and
HOST INSTITUTIONS. Accordingly, the areas of cooperation will include, subject to mutual
consent, any program offered by the HOME and HOST INSTITUTIONS as felt desirable and
feasible on the part of each INSTITUTIONS in fostering development in the cooperative
relationship between the two Institutions;

After full consultation and approval, the development and implementation of specific
activities based on this Memorandum will be separately negotiated and agreed between the
HOME and HOST INSTITUTIONS, which will be carried out in accordance with the laws,
rules and regulations of the respective countries of the HOME and HOST INSTITUTIONS.

PART II: AREAS OF COOPERATION

Both HOME and HOST INSTITUTIONS agree to develop the following collaborative
activities in academic areas of mutual interest, on basis of equality and reciprocity, including,
but are not limited to:

1. Exchange of students, faculty, and researchers;


2. Conduct collaborative research projects;
3. Conducting lectures and organizing symposia; and
4. Promoting other academic cooperation as mutually agreed.

It is expressly understood that the implementation of the above-mentioned list of
cooperation shall depend upon the availability of resources and financial support of the HOME
and HOST INSTITUTIONS.

PART III: STUDENT EXCHANGE

The HOST INSTITUTION shall select and determine exchange participants based on
HOME INSTITUTION’s recommendations;

The HOST INSTITUTION shall accept undergraduate and/or graduate students for a
period to be determined by the said institution. The exchange students shall be registered as
non- degree students by the HOST INSTITUTION;

The HOME and HOST INSTITUTIONS may require the exchange students to
undergo and participate in their recommended health and accident insurance plans. The HOST
INSTITUTION must assist the exchange students of documents necessary for processing their
visa;

The exchange student shall undergo briefing, basic orientation on the tradition, culture
and behavioural discipline as practiced by the HOST INSTITUTION. The HOME
INSTITUTION shall issue an official endorsement vouching for the well being of the exchange
students. The exchange student must agree to abide by all the rules and regulations of the
HOST INSTITUTION;

Subject to the availability of the resources and financial support of the HOST
INSTITUTION, exchange students shall be entitled to:

a) Accommodations to the HOST INSTITUTION’s dormitory/ housing facility; and


b) Medical Health assistance.

PART IV: FACULTY, RESEARCHER EXCHANGE

Faculty members from the HOME and HOST INSTITUTIONS may apply to serve as
visiting member of the faculty or researcher to undertake assigned duties as a visiting faculty
member or researcher. Remuneration will be negotiated by the HOME and HOST
INSTITUTIONS;

The exchange of faculty members shall be subject to the instructional and staffing
requirements of the HOME and HOST INSTITUTIONS. The approval of exchange faculty,
the assignment of teaching responsibilities and all other features of an academic appointment
shall require the approval of the appropriate academic and administrative officers in HOME
and HOST INSTITUTIONS. The arrangement and expense of accommodation of the visiting
faculty or researcher shall be determined by the HOME and HOST INSTITUTIONS, subject
to the availability of the resources and financial support of the HOST INSTITUTION.

PART IV: TERM, RENEWAL, TERMINATION AND AMENDMENT

This Memorandum is valid for a period of four (4) years from the date of signing by the
representatives of both HOME and HOST INSTITUTIONS. This Memorandum shall be
renewed or amended after being reviewed and renegotiated by both HOME and HOST
INSTITUTIONS. The amended Memorandum once renegotiated and agreed upon, shall serve
as an integral part of this Memorandum.

This Memorandum may be terminated by one of the two Institutions upon prior notice
to the other in writing, no later than six (6) months before the expiration of this Memorandum.
Any current exchange students/faculty shall, however, in any case retain their previously
exchange program agreement until the end of the term for which their exchange has been
agreed.

This Memorandum shall be officially executed in English.
