# Case 1: Horizontal Impact on Corner Post in Z-Direction with Springs (10KN/m)

The load is applied at the corner post with 4 springs given at the bottom.
Deflection Plot:

Has it can be seen from the below deflection plot, applying a load at the corner post has a twisting
effect on the container which is tied to a hook only (Pinned support) without and other support. Due
to this twisting effect the relative deflection comes out to be very high

Node 7

Node 1

Deflection:

From the above displacement values, it can be seen that the relative deflection in Z-
direction is very high; 498-345 = 153mm
The allowable displacement for the corner post = L/250 ~ 1798 / 250 = 7.192 mm <
153mm.
From STAAD, the beam deflection summary is printed below.
Case 2: Horizontal Impact on Corner Post with pinned supports

The load is applied at the corner post with pinned supports given at the ends of the beam on which
the force acts:
Deflection Plot:

Has it can be seen from the below deflection plot, the deflection is negligible.

Beam 166

Beam 1

Node 1

Deflection:

## The maximum delfection reported at any 1 node is 1.1mm only.

For the beams with impact force, the displacement summary is given below
Case 3: Horizontal Impact on Corner Post in X-Direction with springs (10KN/m)

The load is applied at the corner post with pinned supports given at the ends of the beam on which
the force acts:
Deflection Plot:

Deflection:

From the above displacement values, it can be seen that the relative deflection in Z and
X-direction is very high; XDir = 1050-889 = 161mm and ZDir = 243-228=15mm
The allowable displacement for the corner post = L/250 ~ 1798 / 250 = 7.192 mm <
161mm and 15mm.
From STAAD, the beam deflection summary is printed below.
Case 4: Horizontal Impact on Corner Post in X-Direction with pinned supports

The load is applied at the corner post with pinned supports given at the ends of the beam on which
the force acts:

Deflection:

## The maximum delfection reported at any 1 node is 3.04mm only.

For the beams with impact force, the displacement summary is given below
Similar effect can be seen when the impact force is assigned to the side rails of the bottom structure,
top rails and side rails.
