Title Ice Fire Gaming Target Audience 18 - 21
To plan and create a website for selling video games for the company, Ice Fire
Purpose
Gaming.
Goal To have a working website which is relevant to ice fire gaming.
Concept The concept is to create the website with the basic theme of ice and fire.
Client Name: Ice Fire Gaming

Target Audience

The target audience on this project is people who like gaming, this is a huge range however the main
age that we will be targeting the website at is teenage boys, this is because teenage boys play these
video games much more than other age groups of people. Preferably I will be aiming my work at
boys aged 18-21 because most of the games I will be advertising will be age rated 18+ and therefore
people under the age of 18 shouldn’t be playing these games. However, some of the games I will be
advertising will be for people aged under 18, for example, FIFA 18 and Star Wars Battlefront 2 and
therefore I will be only using content on my website that is suitable for people of all ages, because
people of all ages will be seeing the images. I will have the same target audience as other gaming
companies such as Game and CEX.

The functional requirements

Number of pages - I would like between 3-6 pages on my website. I don’t want too many because
then it could get complicated, but I want enough so there is enough information. If there are too
many pages, it will take too much time to create the website if there are loads of pages, also if I keep
the website size small then the website won’t be confusing for the user. With only three pages I can
Charley Longden

keep the instructions simple and the user won’t get lost when using my website. I can also use lots of
attention to detail on each of the pages and add lots of features to make the website more
aesthetically pleasing for the user. The pages I would like to include are a home page, an information
page and a new release game page. This means that I can have lots of information and interesting
things on each of the page so that the user won’t get bored and it will look aesthetically pleasing. I
think three pages is a good amount.

Necessary banner - Also for my website I would like to have a necessary banner, this banner will go
across the top of the home page and will advertise some new games being released, I will merge
these images together into one banner, I got this idea of Game, as one of their main features on
their website is the banner. The banner will be used to advertise new games being released, I also
want the banner to make the page look better. I will use the banner on each of the three pages I am
going to create. This banner will have images of different characters from the new games I am
advertising.

Navigation Bar - My website will also include a navigation bar, this will help the user find their way
around the website. The navigation bar will also include screen icons, this helps people who can’t
read still use my website because they will be able to identify which page they want to go to by
looking at the icons. This navigation bar will make it easier for the user to find the different headings
that the website will be using to sell the items, if they click on the icons on the navigation bar, I am
hoping to create a link which will take the user directly to the page they are wanting to get to, the
navigation bar will highlight specific things that the user might be looking for. For example, they can
find new games or consoles by pressing the navigation bar.

Colour scheme and Background - I will also include a background on each of the pages, this will
make the whole website look more interesting. The background I will use will be along the line of the
ice and fire theme. I could use explosions of ice and fire to make it look more exciting. The colour
scheme will be blue and red to go with the theme of ice and fire, I could also use some grey colours
so to add some extra colours. However, the problem with the colour scheme I have chosen for the
background is that it could be difficult for the user to read any words I will add to the website, and it
also might be hard for the user to see any images, and therefore I would like to go back and change
the colour of my background to a lighter shade so that the user can read all the important
information they need to see.

Screen Icons - I will also use screen icons on my website, these screen icons will help people find
their way around my website. The screen icons I will use will be for the social media accounts, the
shopping cart and the games page, I have made these screen icons my own by editing them in
photoshop and making them ice and fire related. The icons for the social media pages have been
edited to make them look like they are made from ice and fire, I did this to link it to the company
name, ice fire gaming. I did this same process with all the screen icons I added to make the buttons
more interesting, this has made an overall theme for the website which has stayed consistent
throughout the website.

Web Graphics - I will also include web graphics on my website, this will help advertise new release
games, because I can use images from gameplay, put some effects on them using photoshop, and
import them to my website. I would like to use graphics from games such as, Star Wars battlefront 2,
COD WW2, and FIFA 18. These graphics are used so that the user can recognise the game they might
want to purchase, these graphics also make the website more interesting because the more images
Charley Longden

that are used, the more interested the user is likely to be, this also means that the user can get a
small glimpse into what the game looks like which might make the user more interested in buying
the game.

Links - To help people navigate through my product, I will include links. These links will be made
clear in my website, and will be the only reason that the user can find their way from page to page. I
could also use links to the social media accounts so that more people find out about ice fire gaming.
Also, I am aiming to target my website at people who play games this sort of age are people who
regularly use social media and therefore this would a good move. The links to the social media pages
would be on the information page, this would be clever because the user wouldn’t have to go out of
their way to see the company’s social media accounts, and if the user looks at the social media they
are more likely to keep going back to the website.

Text - In my website, I will use text to promote the new games being released, and the other things
that ice fire gaming are promoting, as for the font, I could use something quite nice to look at, but
easy to read like Bauhaus, Broadway, Elephant or Modern no. 20. I don’t want to use a font that is
too serious, because I want the general theme of my website to be quite upbeat and fun. I am going
to include a paragraph telling the user what ice fire gaming are about and what they can do on the
website, this will be included on the information page.

Email Address - I would like to include the company’s details, I will also include the companies email
address, this is so that the user can get in touch with Ice Fire Gaming if they need to. This could also
be used when the user has a question or a complaint about the website or the company. I will have
the email and all the social media accounts on the same page, this could be an information page or a
where to find us page.

Accessibility - The website I am going to create needs to be easily accessible to all people, this
means that it must be compatible to all devices and computers, another way I want the website to
be recognised is through pop ups, where people can access my website when looking at another one
and the popup occurs.

What resources will be needed

To create this website, I will need the correct software’s, I will need a website building software, I
already have created some of the resources on Photoshop for the website, I have created all the
graphics that I will need to use, these graphics are, the banner, the background, the navigation
menu, the rollovers and the buttons. I will also need a computer, to create the website, as
everything I do will be done electronically.

Explain in detail each of the pages to the client

The first page I will be creating is the home page, this will include the company logo, and lots of
different graphics to do with video games, the homepage will be the first thing that the user sees
and because of this it needs to make a good impression. I will also link the homepage to the
company theme, ‘Ice Fire Gaming’ I will do this by using graphics of ice and fire all around the page.
The next page will be selling the consoles and games, this is the page where the user will look
through the games I am advertising, I will use graphics and images to show what games are being
released. Another page will be the contact us page, this is where the user will find out ways to
Charley Longden

contact the company through email, telephone and social medias. I could include links to the social
media accounts on this page to make it easier for the user to find the pages. I could also include an
information page where the user can find out about the company and what they do, however this is
not certain and I will only add it if I have time.

Timescale

The timescale I must complete the website by 16/4/18 which gives us plenty of time to complete the
website however the website will need plenty of time to plan and complete. We have already
created some of the assets in photoshop however I am thinking I might need to spare some time to
create a few more. I would like to plan my website up until the 26th of February, after that date I
would like to begin the construction stage of my website, I would like to have finished my website by
the start of April, so I can give myself some time to test the website and make sure that it works to a
good standard.

Copyright issues

When creating my website, I need to be careful of copyright laws. All the graphics I use need to be
edited in photoshop and made my own, I also need to make sure I don’t use any assets that belong
to anyone else because this would be breaching copyright laws. To create this website, I will have to
use lots of different assets from the internet, I will have edited most of these assets on photoshop
and therefore I am not directly copying the assets from the internet and therefore I am not
breaching any copyright laws. I also need to be careful when designing the layout of the website,
copying a design layout or written copy from another site can land you on the wrong side of an
infringement claim. Copyrights, patent, and trademarks are all intellectual property, which is a work
or invention that is the result of creativity. According to the U.S Patent and Trademark Office, a
copyright protects an original artistic or literary work, a patent protects an invention, and a
trademark protects a brand name. Patents protect ideas, copyrights protect the expression of an
idea, such as a drawing, photograph, song, or written work; and a trademark protects a brands
identity.

Confidentiality Issues

When working on a media production restrictions apply in what you can say, this is to protect people
from racist comments which may offend someone. Confidentiality of information is a law which
states personal information is private and must not be shared, so information between you and your
client must stay between you and your client. Privacy laws refer to the rules that deal with storing,
regulating and usage of personal information of individuals, which can be collected by private
organizations, public, governments or by other people. Decency laws are a law which refers to
people getting prosecuted for doing anything of an obscene, or a disgusting nature, for example it
would be wrong to use images exposing the human body, as that would be obscene. Libel laws is a
method of defamation expressed by, pictures, print, writing, or any communication embodied in
physical form.

Discuss Ethical and moral reasons

Customer confidentiality is a requirement which arises when a person has received information of a
client’s personal details through the line of work. Confidentiality laws require that the business that
holds the information on a client is not allowed to sell the content to other companies and must
safeguard it from theft, use, unauthorised access or loss. Privacy is like confidentiality in the sense of
Charley Longden

keeping the person’s identity hidden. The decency rule of a piece of media is used to help choose
the age rating of the content. Decency is determined by looking for offensive or harmful material
such as, bad language, nudity, violence, drug use or explicit material. The age rating is very strictly
chosen and is rated as accurately as possible. When sold in shops, any content which is age rated
with mature content, is placed on the top shelf, this is to stop any children from accidently seeing
the harmful material. Representation of different people is something that should be considered but
is often overlooked in the film and media industry. This often ends up with certain types of people
feeling offended or unwelcome, so for example it is rare for people to appear in films that earn a
wage below the bread line or are homeless are not represented in movies. Also in other forms of
media, people need to be made welcome, so all religions, genders, sexualities or races need to be
considered, and therefore it is crucial that there are no offensive or harmful messages in any piece
of media. Racial discriminations are a major issue in modern day. It is important to represent other
ethnicities in any products to avoid discrimination. However, in movies which have an age rating
have a warning before it starts that the movie may contain racial remarks or discrimination.

Discuss Legal considerations

Libel is when someone prints a false statement, lie or rumour about someone else, which causes
harm to that person’s reputation. Slander is very like libel; however, it is verbal, this will end up
effecting the person’s personal life and therefore is a suable offence. As I will be using music videos,
and images of the band I will need to make sure that there is nothing visual or verbal is causing libel
or slander to the band members, I cannot use anything that would affect their image in the eye of
the public or that would affect their chances of further work. To prove slander or libel in a court
case, first the victim must prove that the defendant made a false and defamatory statement
concerning the victim. Next, the victim must prove that the defendant made an unprivileged
publication to a third party. Then, the victim must prove that the publisher acted at least negligently
in publishing the communication. Last, in some cases, the victim must prove special damages.

“The Advertising Standards Authority, ASA for short, is the self-regulatory organization of the
advertising industry in the UK. The ASA was founded in 1962. The ASA is the company that creates
code of conduct on people who break copyright rules, the company can receive complaints by
customers who have been affected by copyright. The ASA can ban ads on the internet, these bans
can be costly.” The role of the ASA is to monitor how things are advertised and they also regulate
sales and promotions and direct marketing in the UK. Using advertising codes, they can keep the
standard of advertisement high and appropriate. These codes stipulate “that before distributing or
submitting a marketing communication for publication, marketers must hold documentary evidence
to prove all claims, whether direct or implied, that are capable of objective substantiation” and that
no marketing communication should mislead, or be likely to mislead, by inaccuracy, ambiguity,
exaggeration, omission or otherwise.”

Ethical Considerations

“Confidentiality - When working on a media production restrictions apply in what you can say, this is

“Privacy - Customer confidentiality is a requirement which arises when a person has received
information of a client’s personal details through the line of work. Confidentiality laws require that
the business that holds the information on a client is not allowed to sell the content to other
companies and must safeguard it from theft, use, unauthorised access or loss. Privacy is like
confidentiality in the sense of keeping the person’s identity hidden. Privacy laws are to be
considered when creating any type of product, especially one that uses videos or film. This will be
stricter in the areas which have members of the publics public present. When filming a video, if
some pedestrian walks past and appears in the footage, the video would either need to be shot
again, or the people filming would have to get permission from the pedestrian to appear in the
video, in some cases, the editor will simply blur out the pedestrian’s face. This also occurs with
people’s voices, if the person talking does not give permission, then the footage will need either,
editing, cutting or muting.”

“Decency - The decency rule of a piece of media is used to help choose the age rating of the content.
Decency is determined by looking for offensive or harmful material such as, bad language, nudity,
violence, drug use or explicit material. The age rating is very strictly chosen and is rated as accurately
as possible. When sold in shops, any content which is age rated with mature content, is placed on
the top shelf, this is to stop any children from accidently seeing the harmful material. In the gaming
industry the choosing of age ratings is slightly different because you will be controlling the
characters and playing the games rather than watching the movie, however the general decision
making for age ratings are similar.

“Representation - Representation of different people is something that should be considered but is

often overlooked in the film and media industry. This often ends up with certain types of people
feeling offended or unwelcome, so for example it is rare for people to appear in films that earn a

of media. Racial discriminations are a major issue in modern day. It is important to represent other
ethnicities in any products to avoid discrimination. However, in movies which have an age rating

Classification

“The BBFC is an organisation to classify material both on the internet and hard copy. The British
Board of Film Censors was set up in 1912 by the film industry as an independent body to bring a
degree of uniformity to the classification to film nationality. Statutory powers on film remain with
the local councils, which may overrule any of the BBFC’s decisions, passing films we reject, banning
films we have passed, and even waiving cuts, instituting new ones, or altering categories for films
exhibited under their own licensing jurisdiction. The BBFC is a not for profit organisation, and its fees
are adjusted only to cover its costs. To preserve its independence, the BBFC never receives subsides
from either the film industry or the government. Its income is solely from the fees it charges for its
services, calculated by measuring the running time of films or DVDs submitted for classification. The
BBFC consults the department of Culture, media and sport before making any changes to its fees. All
the decisions are based on public consultation and their guidelines, which form a contract between
the public, the film industry and the BBFC. Their aim is to ensure that children, and all filmgoers, are
protected from harm and illegal material, and they can make informed decisions about their viewing
choices.”

Legal and Ethical considerations from the web:

All the same laws apply to the web in respect to the basics of creating material. This means that
anything used must be acceptable under the copyright designs and patents act 1988. When
putting material on the web it is also important to make sure that all the ethical considerations
are considered. This is important because the owner of the website that has the material on it
would get into trouble if anyone took offensive to the things that were shown. On a website, it is
illegal to show any information that contains obscenity, racial hatred or contempt of court. “
